Told myself to stop buying more gold dress chronos, but couldn't resist this!

    compur3.jpg

38mm unpolished RG case, ref 12539, with lovely facets on the lugs, similar to those on Spillmann steel cases of the same period.

Together with its brother from another mother - facets galore!

Hope you guys like it as much as I do!

Both very beautiful watches, congratulations. I am not familiar with the Spillman case, could you elaborate on that?

    C. R. Spillmann SA were case makers based in La Chaux de Fonds, they're famous for making the cases of the 1st Rolex oysters, as well as cases for many other watch manufacturers, such as UG, Zenith.

The particular case design in the above UG example has facetted lugs that are similar to those on a particular Spillmann case design for other brands, eg doxa chronographs that's a favourite amongst some collectors. Typically in steel though, would love to see other examples in solid gold from our various UG experts here!

    NIce pair!

Why in heaven's name would you stop buying dress chronos? It's the most neglected segment in vintage watches. People pay absolutely insane money for steel pieces, and totally overlook the gold ones. God bless 'em!

    Hammerhead 136, right?
I'll have to check to see if Spillman makes the later iteration of this case in the ref 124XXX series, e.g.

That's a beautiful watch with some really lovely and sharp edges to the case. Am I right in thinking that the 136 hammerhead mark would only be made on a gold case?

Yes, the Swiss makers' marks only go on gold cases. Later steel cases from Spillman often have a case reference with an SP as a prefix, like these casebacks from early Zenith Primeros

So interestingly, neither of these watches is a Spillman. They are run-of-the-mill Jung cases from UG's workhorse case suppplier (hammerhead 128)
