My local watchman had this for sale and tried it on. Solid 18k gold 1972 model. Looks wonderful. Feels great. No idea how to value these or what the forum experts think of this model and movement. Feedback as ever greatly appreciated. I'm in England.
Looks like a nice one, quite sharp case. I love mine! Never looks quite the same (sometimes, yellow gold, the other time rather reddish and Has some serious sparkle). Whilst quite photogenic, nothing beats looking at it in real life in daylight.
It can't be from 1972. I think 1967 or 1968 was the last year of production for those. Caliber 290. How's the medallion? In nice shape these sell for $1800 - $2200.
Medallion is perfect. Has engraving on back indicating was gift for Santander harbour master 1972! Yellow gold but looks neatly rose. He's asking £1800 which is about 2600 US so I guess too much. No papers. Solid gold dial. Will see if he is at all flexible on price.
Great watch. Lovin' my '66 in RG: If you can get the price close to Dennis quote, I hope you 'Do It!' ...
Remember that asking price is just that - asking. If you don't ask for something more reasonable, you don't get it. After all, I could ask $25,000 for my 3+ year old Seiko 007, but it doesn't mean anyone would pay it. $2600 is more in line with the earlier models with date and the scalloped crown.
I did, too. I think the values on these (at least here!) might be creeping up. I thought even these later ones came with the scalloped crown, but are now rarely seen because they 'catch' easily, and break? I'd love to have the scalloped crown on mine (very hard to find in gold) or, if that's true, the correct one. Here's my obviously incorrect crown: Edit: Never mind! Our forum is a treasure trove of info, and I found my answer here : https://omegaforums.net/threads/a-question-of-conquest-crown.20390/page-2#post-232188
From what Jennifer at the Longines museum said, quoted by @khmt2 in the thread I referenced above, many later ones also came with the 'scalloped' crown, including my ~1966 reference 9021:
The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference
Beautiful piece! The vintage Longines are fantastic! The closest thing that I could find on chrono24 is going for $3.3k http://www.chrono24.com/en/longines/conquest-vintage--id4049770.htm How much is the watchmaker asking?
