No kidding. I can't believe how much these all sold for. Lowest was $3300-ish; highest over $3700. He probably was trying to snag one for a bargain.

Yep, bargains all, and he snagged two of them. I can't believe you can get solid gold vintage Connies so cheap. 馃憤

Dealers are still pushing 6-10k depending on condition and pink-ness even without bracelets, if its got a brickwork and hooded lugs, some of the bricks and mortar stores are charging complicated Patek money.

BTW Dennis, if you look at the picture of your SMPP up there, just to the left of the case near the 8 O'clock marker, it looks like there's a... suspicious short dark curly hair attached to it.

A little fuzzy lint jumped in the picture. 馃槣 Didn't notice it, nor the 'halo' effect the gold had around it.

I swear I'm coming down there to sell when it's time to retire.

That one is just stunning, love everything about it! One question though, do you think the stepped side ones lose a little of the flash and gleam that the non-stepped side models do? Something about reflections on the De Lux's under light makes the crystal sort of glow in pictures, while the stepped models seem a bit duller even if they are more intricate.

Some interesting food for thought...

Two gold Omegas for sale at Christies last night, a limited edition 18K RG Speedmaster, estimated 8k-12k, went for 21.5k: http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...3719&sid=2a4dff4e-7a9a-4c74-9991-e50629db4bf0

While a central tourbillon estimated at 20k-30k hit 68k: http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...3720&sid=2a4dff4e-7a9a-4c74-9991-e50629db4bf0

Are Christies undervaluing, or are Omegas actually just really strong at auction at the moment?

No, Christies is undervaluing based on the omega lots there.
And the stepped dial is I think more stunning than the non-stepped one.

I'm ashamed to say I've never seen /either/ in the metal before, only in pictures, that pink gold hooded though is the nicest I've ever seen

The pink gold grand luxe especially with the gold bracelet is the ultimate expression of the connie - save perhaps for the observatory cloisonne dial one and the white gold/platinum grand luxe. Since those others are virtually unattainable (even if you were willing to pay the price) then the PG version I would say is at the top of the heap. I have a YG grand luxe too but the PG one I have is nicer.
I must say the prices fetched on ebay are much higher than what these watches went for only 2-3 years ago. I would say a good 30-50% higher.

Do you have any on bracelet?

No, have not been fortunate enough. I have come close a few times but not successful on the brick bracelet. The problem is the more you know about vintage omegas, the choosier you get and the urge to find bargains and good deals gets stronger and stronger. I also get sidetracked with speedmasters, manual winds, seamaster chronometres etc!

It's a tough life, this vintage Omega collecting. 馃槣 Seamasters, particularly black dialed ones, are my kryptonite.

If there were only one watch you could pilfer from another member's collection, I'd have a tough time choosing between Mike's PG GL as shown here or his NOS Centenary. Value goes to the Connie, but the Centenary is a gorgeous watch.

Interesting information: The buyer of 2 of the four gold de Luxe constellations sold titling this thread appears to be a dealer or collector in Taiwan. This same purchaser, eBay member ct1018m, also recently bought the Constellation "C" in 18k white gold auctioned off by Ronnie (rshroff).

I guess I'm nosy 馃檮

My "kryptonite" is many - I have green, red, etc. and it sometimes shift but the one thing that has been consistent is the cal. 352 constellation. It has been very interesting to me that for this earliest of constellation models, the variation in dial style has been incredible - it almost looks like they had over a dozen dial designs for what is a small handful of cal. 352 connies. By the time the cal. 354 was used, the dial style had been standardized by omega. I think to some extent, the same might be said about cal. 352 seamasters as one can also find a wide range of dial styles/designs for that model.

Perhaps it was this collector/dealer in Taiwan:

He has some absolutely stunning Omega rarities, including a SynchroBeat, in his private collection.

Take care,

That's a Seamaster Pie-Pan De Lux Date at 3... but its not the one Desmond used for his article, that was a stepped dial, this isn't
