·It’s been a trying year but I had a bit of a windfall and ended up splurging. With @pdxleaf’s counsel and coaching I found a -69 that checked all my boxes: seemingly original, nice lume, nice bezel. @pdxleaf spotted the signs of polishing that I missed but at around $4500 it seemed like a good buy.
I’ve had it for a couple of weeks and haven’t taken it off except to sleep, shower, and of course to perform lawncare duties. I was able to find a 1171 bracelet to put on it and I’m really liking the combination. As usual, the flaws like the dinged bezel disappear on the wrist, one of the silver linings for those of us with CSS syndrome (can’t see shit).
In the past two weeks I’ve become more conscious of how regularly I find myself in watch-ravaging situations—up under the dashboard of my rickety car, assembling/disassembling any number of sharp-edged metallic components, carrying furniture through narrow doorways. I’ve already added some scratches to the crystal; maybe I’ll look back in anguish that I didn’t learn my lesson.
