Arrested Development is a show I have watched several times- and I always catch something new when I rewatch.
It was about a decade ahead of its time, airing when shows with laugh tracks and bumbling idiots with nagging wives was still a popular trope…thank god those are gone.

Ozark is great. JB is a great actor and director on the series.

I am generally enjoying it. But the graphic violence is sometimes a bit over the top so I'm finding I need to be in the right frame of mind to watch it. Not sure why every episode has to involve someone being shot in the face or dying some other gruesome death. I'm not offended by it, but sometimes it feels like they ran out of good plot ideas, so they just said, "Hey, let's spatter some blood around."

Same here, but then I started listening to his SmartLess podcast, and it somehow made the gore on Ozark seem less offensive. SmartLess is hysterical and damn entertaining, if you’re looking for a podcast, check it out

Getting back to the original post, That picture is too blurry to be able to tell what it is, other than it does appear to be an Oyster case at 36mm with a smooth bezel. Could be a 1016, or a later version, or even an Oyster Perpetual. Jason Bateman does appear to be a Rolex fan - there are lots of pictures with him wearing a Daytona or a GMT Master, but I can’t find any of him wearing an Explorer.

My guess would be this is a late 1016 or a 14270 which would have been available when he was looking for his “first good watch” in the late 80s or early 90s when he first started making it as an actor. Whether he still has it or not is an open question since he doesn’t appear to wear it anymore.

Of all the various-yet-similar-looking explorer models why the very uncommon 6610?

For this relative newbie to Explorer models, can you please educate on the differences between the triangle shape of the 6610 and the 1016? Also, the paint on those indices looks very white, which to me suggests a newer version rather than a 30-something-year-old 6610. But perhaps it is a perfect example with little patina.

On his Daytona, an interview with British GQ in 2011, “This is a 1979 Daytona, it’s not a Newman. I need to dance a little bit faster to afford one of those! I traded a Rolex Sea-Dweller, a Franck Muller and I wrote a cheque [to get it]. I wish I had a collection of vintage Rolexes. Orlando Bloom and John Mayer both have incredible collections, but they’re very wealthy.”

SPOLER ALERT from Season 2 of Ozark. We are still watching it. Not bingeing, but it is growing on us. Interestingly, we just watched an episode where three major characters were killed off bang-bang-bang. Strangely, each time, I was happy to see the person killed, although the circumstances were sad in one of the killings. And this followed another two other major or recurring characters being killed in the previous few episodes. Not only did this decimate the list of major characters, but it completely ended several major unresolved story lines in an unsatisfying way.

It's as if the writers write themselves into a corner and can't figure out how to resolve important interpersonal conflicts in an interesting way, so they just kill the people off. Tragic but fascinating relationship where the daughter is devoted to the emotionally abusive father. How will she ever escape? Just kill him off. Deeply loving but co-dependent relationship between a psychopathic married couple who have a major unresolved conflict? How will it be resolved? Just kill one of them off. Interesting plot line where the dirty law enforcement agent is caught up in the criminal enterprise and starting to receive a dose of his own medicine? How will it end? You guessed it ... kill him off.

Then I asked myself, would I be unhappy to see any of the major characters killed? And I decided that I would be happy to see every major character killed (I don't really consider the children to be major characters). I don't relate or empathize with any of them, and they all basically deserve it. I wouldn't even really mind if Ruth were killed, or even Marty, although that would presumably be the end of the series.

My wife and I stopped at the end of season 3 as we didn't really see where it was going. It is not that we found it terrible, but it seemed like the writers were making it up as they went with no overarching plan. I quite like Jason Bateman and Laura Linney but Julia Garner was hands down the best performance in my opinion.

She is phenomenal, and what a great role for her. We started season 3 last night.
