Offered for sale is a reference E.2643 Jaeger-LeCoultre Shark / Vogue Deep Sea Chronograph Prototype. Here is your chance to own a truly rare vintage timepiece, especially in this configuration. The JLC Shark/Vogue Chronograph was a limited production piece released by Jaeger-LeCoultre in the late 1960s as a response to the increasingly demanding sport chronograph market. JLC struggled to find footing in this highly competitive section of the watch market, as such the E.2643 was only produced in a short run lasting a few years. Sharing a number of key features with both Heuer and Rolex, the Shark/Vogue is a rare find today.

The watch case measures a classic 41mm. This rare LeCoultre prototype is 1mm larger than the standard 40mm Shark. A stunning piece of JLC history. I have only seen 3 known pieces of the rare 24-Hour bezel with the larger style case. The white 24-Hour bezel is only intended to fit the larger style prototype case. Any of the other 3 black bezels (5-55, Telemetre, World Time) will not fit this specific case and the white bezel will not fit the smaller case. JLC has confirmed that this rare prototype piece was made for the American market.

The case shares the same styling as a Heuer Autavia 2446 with thick beveled lugs and a rotating timing bezel, but unlike its Heuer cousin features a screw-down case back for improved water resistance. A near flawless reverse panda dial with triple register layout, with registers for 30-minute and 12-hour counters along with sweeping sub seconds. This watch sports a simple LeCoultre name on the dial, owed to it's final destination to the American market. The dial also boasts an inner base 1000 tachymetre ring. This watch features a freshly serviced Calibre 72 manual winding chronograph movement by Valjoux, a legendary movement in excellent condition.

This watch is as near to original as possible, an incredibly clean dial and clean movement are housed in its truly unpolished case. The white aluminum bezel shows very minor wear. This is a chance to own a seldom offered and truly rare vintage timepiece in a desirable chronograph configuration.

Overall Condition: The case is in great condition and is believed to be unpolished. Photos were taken outside in natural light to show minor surface marks throughout, one dent is present on the corner of one lug, as is seen in the photographs. Very fine surface blemishes are hardly seen in person when wearing. Dial is in near pristine condition with crisp printing and no staining or discoloration. Luminous hour plots are intact with no signs of flaking or degradation and exhibit a slight puffiness. Original hands are in good condition, with some minor blemishes as is common on polished steel hands. Hands retain their original lume. Original screw down case back and new hatched crown. Watch comes on a brand new WatchGecko 20mm Tropic strap.

Service details: Watch was serviced by Kelly Hunter, at Art of the Watch, May 2019. Kelly is a master watchmaker with certifications from WOSTEP, AWCI CW21, and factory training with Rolex, Breitling and Omega. Buyer will receive paperwork along with a 6 month warranty.
