Hi Forum,

I am looking to to buy a watch for my father for his birthday.

No one seems to be selling one here at the moment so I started looking around ebay and found these that I think he would like:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/IWC-Portugie...415202?hash=item41c09d66e2:g:9kwAAOSwzgBY0UtN
http://www.ebay.de/itm/IWC-Portugie...447635?hash=item5d6eb708d3:g:HRgAAOSwal5YCiCf
http://www.ebay.de/itm/IWC-von-1947...355718?hash=item440073a7c6:g:la4AAOSwol5Y1Dfh
http://www.ebay.de/itm/IWC-Portugie...166567?hash=item5d6f1d8ea7:g:xgsAAOSwjDZYfJj3
http://www.ebay.de/itm/IWC-SCHAFFHA...227335?hash=item3614902e47:g:BEQAAOSwhQhYysju

Unfortunately I have no experience with Schaffhausen watches. What do you think, maybe you know a better source? All advice is welcome.

Best regards,
Kris

I would not buy IWC on eBay unless I can see it in person or the seller is familiar to me or has impeccable references.

As for the look links you offer it's a little too involved for a Saturday morning to get all of them for you, I can tell you the one that appears to be a blue dial is either not or its not genuine as the only blue dial Portuguese Chrono is the Laureus limited edition series. I have one and IWC appraised it at 9.5 G when they serviced it. Also I believe the 41 mm Portuguese came with a deployant , at least mine did. I could be wrong.

I guess you're right. I'll look around what is available locally.

You can PM some of the sellers here, like @Kringkily , even if they dont deal woth IWC They may be able to point youbon the right direction.

Some ebay listings are actually stores so you can go to their websites or actual stores and get some more assurance.

@Nobel Prize - the 2nd one is not the blue dialed version, seller states in the description that it's black. The AR coating and angle of photographing it makes it look blue, I've seen it in a few different watches. I'm fairly certain normal versions of the chronograph were sold with either buckle or deployant clasp.

@krisztian_andre - the first example is different from the rest of the chronographs, as it has the rattrapante version of the movement. It's more expensive but adds a degree of exclusiveness; however, for a non-watch nerd, it will make little to no difference.
I'd definitely go with the modern Portugueser chronographs, vintage pieces are trickier to purchase via eBay. As you're probably based in Germany, you have a good selection of on-line dealers to choose from.

The watch is amazing in person, I've chosen it to mark a special event and don't have a shred of regret (the solid steel caseback makes it very good for engraving, too)!

Here's mine!

I've seen the black version and the gold numbers look really good on it. My father would prefer the white dial I think. I am leaning towards the rattapante variant.

Don't know if it still matters: The third watch in your list seems to be a redial. The markings in the subdial are not centered.

It does, I still haven't decided what to get yet.

Thank you for the observation, I didn't notice it.

How about this one. It looks suspiciously clean to me, what do you think?
It is not that clean that you think. Have a close look at the dial. There are small spots all over the dial. For me an indicator that the dial is not completely new.
What irritates me a little bit is that the dots of the minute track are somewhat irregular. But this can be due to the crystal.

Yes, the hour dots look like they overspilling. I don't know if that is normal.
