After seeing that bargain IWC a couple of weeks ago, I decided to go fishing for one on the 'Bay and hooked this one:

Seems to be a Ref. 2407 with a cal. 403.

Comes with the full package, bracelet, box and all paperwork.

Although the retailer marked the book as a Ref. 2403, it seems that the 2407 is the exact same watch with the bracelet.

Thanks for the assistance on this one Dennis,

Happy to help! Couldn't believe it went for the lowest number in the estimate - what a deal. Add this to the list of watches I want to check out in March when Windy & I are in your neck of the woods. Get the case back serial number, and punch it in here with your movement's serial number to get the year it was made:

The 403's serial shows as 1970 which is within the timespan that model was made. Great pick up!

Well, if you find one with the 12, 3, 6, and 9 I want first right of refusal to rebuy the ribbon lug.

I'm letting this one stay in the high end forum since it doesn't have an ETA movement in it ;)

understand -- however, these two would make such a great looking couple together (in my watch box of course) :D

IWC was all in-house back then, and the caliber 403 is a direct descendant of the caliber 89, just a little smaller. The ultra-thin version is the caliber 401.

Totally agree, I'll even have modern IWC's with in-house movements, just nothing ETA.

Oh, they did wonders to the ETA ebauchés they used to get from Swatch before 2008.

Didn't get a definitive answer on the caseback or the movement from that site. However, the date on the guarantee of October 1972 and the catalog page from 1972 makes me guess...oh, about 1972.

Also, upon further review, I think it could be the Ref. 2403 with an add-on IWC bracelet. The Ref. 2407 bracelet has curved endpieces and a slighly different clasp.

    Thanks again.

Edit - The number shown on the picture of the Guarantee above is the case number if you want to try it. At least I know that it is the correct paperwork.

Your movement's serial number is 2011737 from the picture. It's in the channel between the balance and wheel train bridges. Where they got 2067737 for the paperwork is beyond me. ::confused2::

    That's the case number.

BTW, one other oddity is that this particular example was adjusted in 3 positions. Not all of the cal. 403's were. I'm not clear on the rhyme or reason to this yet.

    Oh.

I couldn't tell you myself. Might be an interesting research project for (cue heroic theme music) InvestiGator!

Was that a little too nerdy? Bah, can't be as bad as the Superman thread.

I see it as the movement being produced in 1970, and the case between 1970 and 1974. Probable delivery of sometime around 1973 - which seems to jive pretty well with late October of 1972.

I can see the future - you'll end up not liking the C-case and a mysterious northerner will buy it from you during spring training. :D He'll even let you make a nice profit.

Sharp! That's a nice strap and SS case combination! and a nice way IWC treated the watch owner!
