For about a year now I have been looking to purchase an IWC Cal 89 in gold. I always found these incredibly well-balanced and a great size as a modern dress watch. Up to this point, I have not been able to find such a watch in great condition at a great price. Last week I found the IWC pictured below. It is a reference 521 in rose gold, 37mm. It also has the uncommon "shark" lugs. Fortunately, I was able to purchase from the original owner who never wore the watch. He even kept the original tag attached!
Wow just wow. Congrats on the grail acquisition, this truly is worthy of that title in my book. Can't wait to see it on a strap! [dibs btw]
I like the story almost as much as the watch, lucky to find the exact watch you wanted in basically new condition at I assume a used price. Either way congrats.
Congrats! These wear extremely well. I have a NOS one in my collection with the "rarer" straight lugs. Wear it in good health my friend!
Oh wow, congrats! I really like the ones with 'shark' lugs and 3,6,9 numerals. Nice score. (ps. and dibs!)
Thanks for the kind words everyone -- I really am thrilled with this one! To those who have IWC Cal 89 (@alam @Xeer), did you do your service through IWC or an independent watchmaker? This one runs perfectly right now but has obviously never been serviced as it spent life in a drawer.
@MikeMan2727 I got mine from an independent watchmaker who took care of the service before it was delivered to me -- that was almost four years ago and remains on spot! I believe the cal 89 is a simple movement to service that any competent independent watchmaker will be able to service... BTW @NT931 holds another cal 89 beauty! @NT931 lets see it!
And who could say no to such an invitation from @alam ? I love my IWC dearly, and it was Alam himself who kindly passed it on to me almost 3y ago, keeping it within our OF community. @MikeMan2727 I agree with Alam, most competent watchmakers should be able to service a cal 89.
Great looking IWC's ! What is the consensus on the price range for very good to excellent condition? Moreover, does anyone know whether these come with a black dial? Beware this one
