I’ve Never Seen a 1039 Bracelet with this Feature

i have a 4th Quarter 1967 Omega 1039 bracelet with end links 516.
What’s unusual is that it has an extension plate which extends from the clasp and works as if a large spring loaded plate instead of a link.
Please see photos and note stretch as plate is extended from clasp.
Is this an original feature of the bracelet and were many discarded after years of use and no longer functioned?

Any opinions appreciated.

Looks like a modded bracelet to me.
It does indeed, but previous owner, an 82 year old gentleman, stated that this feature was an option on the 1039 and that because it was spring loaded many broke over the years. A sort of fix-o-flex feature. Don’t know....

So why would you need a spring loaded clasp when you already have spring loaded links?

Never seen either - but would not be surprised if it was available as an aftermarket product, given the number of different Omega bracelets using that type/measure of clasp (7912, 1039, 1506, 1035).

Given the diving nature of the watches where they were mounted, perhaps it was useful for wearing on the top of a wetsuit , as an extender without having to move the pins of the clasp.

Similar to the Divers Extension on a Rolex 93150 bracelet?

I bet this was an in-period aftermarket mod, maybe even sold and installed by dealers. It's not Omega factory, but it's also not shoddy and it looks like it fits well.

Yes, it's very nicely done.

I agree with the Forum. I also posted in a Facebook group and they concur... aftermarket modification.

It was easy to remove and does look very sturdy and well constructed
