As a collector of more modern omega and Rolex and with an interest in most things mechanical ( I restore and race old lambrettas and vespas ) I am becoming more interested in vintage watches ( reading threads on here partly to blame ) would be great if I could get some suggestions on a 1968 model to start my collection to mark my 50 years of survival (amazed I made it this far so from now on every days a bonus!!!) budget up to approx £10k
First off all happy birthday! I’ll be joining you in October. I’d recommend a Speedmaster from 1968. It represents what many consider the best of both worlds: the last year for a dial with an applied metal logo and the introduction of a new movement, the caliber 861. The price should come in well under your limit. Good luck with your search.

I'd go for a rose gold Constellation. Might take a while to find one but, a proper momento if it's in top condition. It'll be hard to find a tool watch in top notch condition anyway and for me, if you're remembering an anniversary, you want a perfect watch. Chris
Wow that's some budget!! Yeah I'd go with a Speedy too. In fact, 2 of them! You could probably just about afford a '68 , A Mark II and a Mark III
There's a nice Tudor from 1968 in the sales thread https://omegaforums.net/threads/1968-tudor-submariner-7528-7016-semi-pcg-transitional-diver.68331/ (I have no affiliation with the sale)
The Speedy is a great option. If you’re looking to mix it up, a nice-condition 1016 Explorer from ‘68 would be pretty awesome. I just saw one in the metal today from that general period and... well, is was frigging gorgeous.
