Hi all. My grandmother passed away a few years ago and left me her husband's watch. I know nothing about watches so would be grateful for any information you give me e.g. age, model, value.
    Thanks in advance
    Jim

No need for a hosting site. Instead, click the "add photos" button below the reply box and select the images from your device. Once you've selected all the images you want, click on "insert all photos".

Looks like an early seamaster. Case looks great. Dial and hands look good to me. Crown looks like a replacement. Everyone will ask for better photos and a photo of the movement and caseback. I suggest you find a qualified watchmaker to take a look at it. And don’t send it to Omega they don’t respect the integrity of their vintage watches..

Thank you so much for you reply. Have you had any dealings with a company called Timewise services. If so how good/trustworthy are they. They are close to me and advitise as omega specialists. Just looking at weather it is worth a service or not. Thank you again

I’m sorry I live in he US I haven’t heard much about them. I have read many people in the UK use STS and they do a great job. Servicing an old omega is usually pretty expensive so don’t be shocked if you get a high est. I’m sure others will add to the post soon and offer some good advise! Be careful this may start an omega addiction :D

Would STS be Swiss Time Services . If so they are just around the corner from me. What a coincidence. I don't mind the price as long as the watch is worth restoring. Thank you for you time

Yes that’s Swiss Time Services. I would get a complete movement service and a replacement crown if it’s jot original... and new plastic crystal. I think a nice distressed honey brown strap would look amazing with your watch. Please share updates as you get them!

I will pop in STS with the watch sometime this week. I will certainly post an update when it's back to its former glory. Thank you very much for taking your time to help me

A service through STS won't be much less than the value of this one, I'm afraid, but it's a family piece so if you love it, feel a connection through it, then service it, wear it and enjoy it.

As I said the price isn't really an issue but I wouldn't want to waste my time (or money) if the watch is only worth £50. I think it would be nice to service it and wear it for a while before passing it on to my son in years to come. It has much more value to me than just a price tag

Perfect - that's the best way to look at this one, I think. Get in touch with STS; have a chat, better still, it they're local to you, book an appointment - you'll be in no doubt how well they'll look after your watch once you've been there. (And if you do go there, try not to leave tongue prints on the display cabinets).
