On this day, January 10, 1969, El Primero was introduced to an awestruck world. Today. 44 years later, it remains -- essentially unchanged -- at the front of the pack, among the finest automatic chronograph movements existing.

On this red-letter day in horological history, what else am I gonna wear? Well, except maybe these:

Not such a good photo, but I haven't seen it since just after I bought it (at the watchmaker's being serviced)

My first. Found hiding in the back of a case at a watch show a couple of years ago. NOS with box and tags. Only now realize how lucky I was to find! bracelet added.

Recent addition which many will recognize. Yes, I still have a nosebleed. Nicer in the flesh than expected though and a long time keeper.

A Less than great over and under shot with Se帽or DeVos from a while back. Unlike David I do not have adoring students generously providing bracelet gifts!

Jamey is on the right side of the watch gods, that is for sure.

Well, I must say this has turned into rather an excellent thread! A very worthy and fitting tribute - thank you one and all for a very memorable Primero Day!
Here's to many more like it in equally good - preferably the same - company!馃嵑

Jamie that is a great shot of the two a386 as it goes to show the difference in the case design from senor d evos [ mark II or mark III] case on the top, to your [ mark I ] 539dxxx case on the bottom. I see in the picture above you have the later font arrangement on your [mark I] and ticker sub dial hands, did you change the dial and hands? The pictures of your [mark I] 539dxxx you sent in response to my thread [ OVER VIEW OF THE ZENITH A386 CASE] in the pictures the watch has its original skinny sub dial hands and original early font arrangement on the dial.

Those are three absurdly nice examples of my three favorite steel El Primero references. Every time this thread gets bumped, my heart breaks a little.
Probably hopeless, but it must be said: dibs on the A3818. 馃槈

BCBG: It was I who inadvertently switched the cases when doing a little crystal cleaning and dusting of dials when I had the two watches open...now as you notice Jamey's is back up to snuff, and mine has since left for another wrist..
