It’s all about emotions?

While doing some cleanup I had a look into a old omega catalogue and found it interesting to compare the value of those watches nowadays.
The constellation (gold plated version)was even more expensive than the Speedmaster, and the steel version as much as the Seamaster 300.
Comparing these prices nowadays, makes me think about it. Why? Only due to the history of the watch? Were fewer made of these? The design?

My opinion, and that's all that it is, was that at that time the Constellation was considered the "top of the line" and chronometer certified. The Seamaster and Speedmaster were just sports watches, and priced accordingly lower than the "premier" constellation. Perspectives have changed in the past 50 years.

In my opinion the only reason that the Speedmaster is worth more today than the Constellation is that the Speedmaster was the moon watch.

It's so weird seeing what seems like a 2998 with a baton hand.. that "r", subdial tracks, and base 1k bezel... but then again back in Omega adverts they just used whatever they had. Looks kinda cool though.

It’s only the last 7-8 years the price of a Speedmaster has gone crazy. 2013 a new Speedmaster was more than a vintage 1969…..

Yes that’s true, I regretfully remember some purchases and sales I did 10 years ago ( in terms of nowadays value) and my lack of patience or appreciation back then.

Go back another 10 years and a ‘69 was less than $1k. We’re not talking about ancient times, it was the early 00’s….wait, that was 20 years ago…ugh- I’m getting old. 🙁

Current Globemaster (2015 release) retail is $7200, and the 3861 Speedmaster (2021) is $7150. The Constellation line is still priced more aggressively, and if the Globemaster is updated next year (70 years of Constellation), it's reasonable to expect that difference will only grow.
