Hi everyone, I have been looking at the forum for a few weeks now and have seen some great advice that helped me purchase a vintage seamster. This weekend however whilst doing a clear out at my grandparents house in Ireland I came across a box full of watches one of which was an Omega megasonic 720hz. After doing some research I think this the 1973 release and from what I can gather was a bit ahead of its time as far as electric watches go. I think this would have been my late uncles watch as he was the go to guy for repairs in the local village. I suppose now I am really after some advice as to what to do next. I would love to get the watch working again so any help on any specialists in the uk would be greatly appreciated. I know these megasonics were not produced for long and the micrometer can be tricky to repair so I am guessing there might not be too many specialists around. I am definately going to keep the watch as I am sure it is a sign that I am going to get hooked on vintage omegas.

Hi Chris. There's a guy somewhere in the Croydon area who specialises in Bulova Accutrons. He might be a good place to start (I guess Google could be your friend here)

 

Thanks very much Hijak and Stewart, I think a few hours will be spent tommorow before work doing a bit more research. Im hoping it wont be a big overhaul or anything majorly wrong though as the more i look into it, it does not seem like the simplest of mechanisms.

agree with Mothra, Paul at electric-Watches is first class. He has fixed 2 for me in the past 2 years

 

Apparently that is indeed the go-to man for any timepiece that hums.

MegaSonic's are great....as long as they keep going ! If that micromotor dries up then....well it starts getting tricky....and Omega UK's appointed vintage specialist Swiss Time Services unfortunately does not support them any longer:

Thanks again everyone, Ive sent an email off to Paul at electric watches, so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do. Its great reading up on the megasonic and how cutting edge it was for its time. Im really hoping the micrometer is ok or can be fixed/replaced as the more I have the watch on my wrist the more I want it working. Is there much value to these or are they one of the less desirable omegas? They never seemed to appear much when I was researching my seamaster even though its a similar year.

The bike in tho photo is a wasp cafe racer with triumph daytona 500 engine . Not mine unfortunately but Im a huge fan of the style. I have a few photos for research purposes as I had a 1970 triumph daytona T100 which was going to be a cafe racer project. Unfortunately a little thing called a wedding got in the way and my triumph project came well down the list after flowers and honeymoons so she had to go. (Bike not the wife)

 

A familiar tale In another life, I used to own and ride Ducati singles. I somehow guessed that was a Triumph twin.

 

Maybe I will try again in a few years with a daytona or bonneville, havent even got a garage in the new house so slowly she is reducing my space for "projects". Luckily the watches are small.
