Is this watch real?

Hello, I recently inherited this watch that I know very little about. I realize taking the back off helps with identification, but I'm wondering if anything sticks out as being obviously fake so I won't have to mess with that.

Congrats--that's an incredibly nice watch. More than likely a 145.022-68. Not only does everything look authentic, it looks *great*.

Really nice 145.012 or 145.022-68 with the original 1039/516 , you cannot know without opening the back for exact ref for this one.

Beautiful watch, and valuable. You need a professional (not mall battery changer) to open so you can get reference from inside case back. Probably needs a service if you intend to use it, you can get recommendations based on where you live. Don’t take any immediate offers for sale until you have better understanding of what it is.

Thanks for the replies everyone 😀

Condolences. Not only is this watch is a great memory of the person you inherited it from, it is a particularly nice example of an iconic watch. Please don't let just any hack try and open it or work on it. This watch deserves a full service by an expert who understands vintage Omegas. If you let us know your general location we can recommend someone. If you have not already, you should check out this excellent website created by a member here. https://speedmaster101.com/

Your watch is likely worth between 10 to 12k usd at current prices at the low end. Maybe up to 15k. Assuming it’s a correct 145.012 which it appears to be.

do not have it serviced except by an expert if your going to keep it.
If you sell it let the buyer deal with a service.

Thank you, and I don't intend on selling it. I'm in southeast Wisconsin within driving distance of Chicago and Milwaukee

Also do not bring to a jeweler to open it. They’re not good enough. You really need a professional watchmaker. The last thing you want is a deep scratch on that case back, that would be irreparable damage.

Sorry for your loss.

I am only chiming in because no one has mentioned it yet. Do NOT send it to Omega for service.

Broonzy, you have received very good advice from a number of members here. This is a special watch in what appears to be excellent condition and it is valuable. As lceter noted, do not send it to Omega for service as they will update it to modern standards and destroy its vintage character and devalue it in the process. You need a watchmaker who specializes in servicing vintage watches, so go with one of the recommendations being given here. Spectacular find and a real heirloom that should remain in your family. Congratulations.
