Is this vintage?

This is my husbands great grandfathers watch. We are just wondering if this is worth much since it has all the paperwork and the box, still works, and seems all original except the band was replaced.

The photos are pretty blurry, but I have no doubt it's a legit vintage Omega watch. Probably worth in the vicinity of $1000-$1500 on the open market. I imagine that the sentimental value is more important.

Your photos were very educational, BTW, the internet learned a lot about medication, personal grooming, and footwear. ;-)

Oh wow.thank you. My husband is not overly sentimental. He asked where you think the best place to try selling this might be? And haha about the photos. I didnt really think about all that. I dont think you can get much info about the meds anyway lol.

It’s hard to say what the best place to seek would be as we don’t know whether you’re in the UK, Australia, EU, US etc.

Generally speaking, eBay with lots of good pictures

Does the engraving take away from the value at all? There is an engraving on the back of the watch as well as whats shown on the box.

Probably a small devaluation. There are some people who don't like personal engravings, so the pool of buyers is a little smaller. So that's a negative, but the original box and paperwork is a positive. And the case looks to be in good sharp condition.

Hopefully the dial is also completely clean, because dial condition is important. There are a lot of apparent marks on the dial, but they might be due to scratches on the crystal and shadows, etc. If the dial has marks on it, that will really decrease the value.

Anyway, when you list it for sale, make sure you practice taking good photos where the watch is in focus so buyers can evaluate the condition.

it’s not clear from your photos but I suspect that the original crown has been replaced by a generic non-Omega crown at some stage and the watch itself is very mucky-looking.

Also, whilst many presentation watches are gold, you don’t mention any hallmark and, if it is gold plated, that will significantly reduce the value.

The expandable Spiedel-style bracelet, very fashionable 60 years ago, might have damaged the lugs and you might want to remove it now and, judging my the look of the watch, any new owner will need to factor in the cost of a service at around $200-250 so, with all those imponderables, I think you’d be doing well to get $600.

You really need more and better, sharper photos …..

It looks like the papers say “14kt GF” for gold filled. This needs confirming as solid 14ct will be worth significantly more than gold filled.

It’s a nice overall package but solid gold in good condition with a nice dial will likely be 4+ times the value of gold filled with an average dial.

I had been assuming solid 14k gold with my estimate, but I missed that "GF" on the papers. So indeed, that reduces the value to $500 at the most. Apologies.

Ah, that makes more sense. I thought your valuation was a little toppy!

On a slight diversion from the main topic, are you DanS, formerly BadBackDan on WUS?

Better to start your own thread rather than piggy back on an existing one as it gets confusing.
It’s a redial with the wrong hands. Avoid
