Hi guys I’m interested in buying this watch and what I can tell buy lookin at the pictures it looks like an early UG “outdoorsman”. All similar ones I found here browsing had no logo at all. The dial looks legit and untouched to me but I have not seen this logo before. What do you think? Really sorry for bad picture but that’s all I got. I do not have movement pictures but I will take a risk and include service cost in the price count. The watch is sold as “non working” Thanks, Kapka
hi, yes! http://montresmecaniques.forumactif.com/t6960-universal-geneve-triple-date-phase-de-lune-ref-11306 this is from a french forum but valuable information!
Watch will clean up well with some TLC from a qualified watchmaker...All correct. This is a great reference. I cant speak to the shield but it looks like it belongs there. I seem to recall seeing this on dials before.
A similar question has been raised before. The fact that the shield resembles a logo used by UG in the 1930s is not disputed, the question is whether that logo should be on the dial. There is an example in Sala with this logo on the dial on page 185 although it seems to me that to find just one example amongst the hundreds of dials in Sala isn't particularly conclusive. Someone more familiar with earlier UG may be able to help.
Yet another 20721, love this case. Dial looks fine to me. Find the gold hands a bit odd? But who knows, with the logo dial, maybe this is just an uncommon configuration. If you get the hands and crystal sorted, I think it will look quite nice. I would want to see a mvmt shot to make sure things are ok under the hood...
Thanks Larry! I just went trough some of your posts regarding this reference. Very valuable info! I have a good watchmaker but I hope that I don’t need to many spare parts
Thank you guys for your inputs @Mazoue @bgrisso !! I’m quite comfortable with the dial now and I guess ghat these early models can vary in dial execution. Judging by the yellow spot under the minute hand , god knows when this thing was running last time. Anyhow, I saw some of your nice photos on this reference and I really like it especially a bit odd case design with fat lugs. The crown was nit signed but what can you expect. According to the table I found here on the forum it is from 1943sh. The hands would need to be relumed carefully but the rest of the dial looks quite nice. Let see if my bid will take it all the way to the finish line (300 euro). /Kapka
To sum: The case, crown, dial, second hand are all correct. Plated H/M hands are a question mark. SB a cal 263 under the hood. Dial in particular has a nice even patina...very desirable.
Thank you! Will do my best to bring it home . Don’t have that many UGs so this could be a good an relatively inexpensive option to expand. Btw, the case size is 34 mm so that is also on a positive side..
This logo is found on the archives, legit But sometime it can be added on the dial, or even present on a redial
