Offered over on the FS section, this deserves a full assessment by members.

When a rare watch is offered at double what I am used to seeing them sell for, I get out the magnifying glass.

This watch has several issues that ought not be present in a top price watch, in my humble opinion.

Saw that One too, can't make out anything obviously wrong with it. Apart from the lumen shot/seconds hand discussion. Yes the price is very high, but in todays crazy market? Also it's a full set...

There's one 145.022-68 transitional tropical listed for 11,5k $ on ebay right now... And it's not a full set...

Your opinions usually turn out to be correct when they concern issues with watches like this one.

the 68 transitional is a rare watch, it is not often seen on the market, but when it is, the "median" price for an average to good example might be around $6000. This price might be a little low as speedmaster Fever increases. (as we enter September after the summer the prices have languished through the summer and might move as Auction houses start the selling season)

There is no doubt the Transitional as a reference is undervalued when you think of its rarity, attractiveness and ease of maintained compared to 321.

To be a transitional it must have the -68 case back, the AML long indices dial, and a serial in the 26 or 27m range, and a D090 bezel.

As DO90 bezels are so valuable now, this must be taken into account when valuing a watch. As the op watch does not have one, then that means a 1500-3000 reduction in value from what one might consider a transitional to be worth, as it is an essential element of the reference.

I have no doubt there is a transitional out there that someone would pay $12,000 for. I would expect it to be in close to unworn condition, with a box and papers, and a top DO90 bezel.

This particular watch has no provenance, and suspect looking hands. It also, to me, has dial plots that look very slightly suspect. They are very yellow, thick and creamy. I have not seen this before, and it may be fine. It is just that as the hands look a little dodgy, I start to worry about the dial.

I think this watch has been "prepared" and some time.

I don't expect these worries when I consider paying top dollar for a watch.

Doesn't the seller indicate he has the original bezel? I believe he added a photo of it recently. Would that make a difference in your evaluation?

I thought there is a DO90 bezel included in the sale?

I agree that there should be no worries attached to a Price this high.

There's nothing transitional about the watch in that listing.
    It's a way overpriced standard 69.[/QUOTE]

True, just wanted to Point out with my post that there are other listings (and even obviously wrong) with overly optimistic price expectations in todays market which have more obvious flaws then op's Watch.

What's odd about the lume shot, to me, is that the dial and chrono hand glow, but the hour and minute hands don't seem to glow at all. That would raise a flag as SF says and I'd be on high alert. I too am a little wary of the dial as the lume plots look quite thick to me.

It's nice that it comes with full set, but I don't think that warrants the asking price.

It does come with a decent DON bezel too, but IMHO, it's about 4-5K over priced, more even if the dial is relumed.

It's a nice looking watch, but I think the seller might be in an awkward position now....

::popcorn::So with the DON Bezel. Suspected re-lume we are talking more like 6-7k?

I think there are lessons to be learned about presentation as well.

The watch could have presented with a DO90 bezel attatched, and the papers could have been pictured so as to show they were for the actual watch.

Hey, I can ASK whatever I want for one of my watches. I could list my Seiko Pepsi for $25,000 (with FREE shipping! :p). It doesn't mean anyone will ever BUY it anywhere near that price.
