If they would have put the estimate at its real market value (80-100K)
$108,105 all in.

Do we know to which country it was sold ?
Might have been Omega museum... if it's the very-first 👎

Unless I am missing something, having read this thread it seems there is nothing supporting the claim it was the first other than the last 3 digits of the serial being zero. The extract certainly suggests nothing out of the ordinary.

Doesn’t really matter.
IMO this watch was worth the same whether it was the first or 17th 2998-1.
At the end of the day it’s all about the condition.

But it might matter to the museum, who were suggested as a possible buyer above...

Mine was produced on October 27th, 1959
@kov 's 2998-1 was produced on Oct 27th 1959.
The Phillips watch was produced on November 10th 1959, so, not the first...

As the Great Chuck Berry sang, " wasn't me, uh, uh, wasn't me....."

Nice example to behold.

Considering the watch and its condition, it was a strong result. 👍

Glad I got the wristwatch bug in 1977

Don’t worry, the guys who got hooked by Poljot watches lately didn’t suffer from inflation.

The supply must still exceed the demand ::rimshot::

... At least those guys enjoy the hobby buying avition-related chronographs at prices others have to pay for a NATO strap
IMHO those exuberate auction prices have nothing more to do with enthusiasts & hobbyists... it's more about egos & "investments"...
Luckily this trend didn't spread to rare books & historical photograph collectors ... and let's keep it that way 📖
