Hi guys, this is my first post on these forums. I've recently got into watches and was told that an Omega is a very solid watch to buy. Since then, I've been searching around and have since noticed this one. I have really been looking for a vintage watch as I like the style of them; especially the 1980's. Essentially, I'm wondering if anyone on here can impart their knowledge and tell me if this looks to be the real McCoy. God bless - John.

Yep, it seems like the real deal. You'd have to look further into the papers to find out if they are correct for the watch.

The watch itself is heavily polished and has lost its gold plating on the lugs, rendering it neigh on worthless as a collector's item though.

EDIT: As you can tell by this edit, it is possible to correct your first post. No need for bumping a thread within minutes of posting.

How much do you reckon this puppy would go for in that case? @ConElPueblo

Hi @john sacrimoni and welcome to the forum!

If you're thinking about buying a quartz watch, it would be wiser to buy a new quartz watch rather than a used one, even if the dial says "Omega." All quartz watches have a limited lifespan, and your example above may be close to its end. If you're interested in vintage watches, most folks on this forum prefer mechanical watches. To understand why, take some time to look at these threads:

There are lots of different kinds and types of watches out there, from a variety of different brands. Take some time to soak up the knowledge on these forums, read a book or two on watches, ask questions. Chasing a nice vintage watch takes patience.

Internal electronic parts go bad and replacements are getting hard to come by. These are not cheap Japanese quartz movements.

Interesting. Which parts specifically would go bad?

Out of interest what would be the expected lifespan for the modern Omega quartz models?

For a new, modern quarts? I would assume it would last a very long time. 25+ years.

Make sense, I also planned on using mine as a beater and thought it would probably not be able to be handed down to my son.
