    Hello...
I'm new to the forum and going thru a dilemma.

I want to buy my first collector's item.
And this is what I found...

Any opinion, input and advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanx in advance.

Why do you think it is a franken? What have you found wrong / right with it?

I don't know. I'm here to listen and learn.

On the other hand, if what I've read and learned so far is of any use... well... the bezel doesn't look like a pre moon and the Swiss Made sign under the 6 position should have a T on each side. But I could be wrong and I'm here to look, listen and learn.

    Thanx for your input.

    Bezel is not pre-moon.

What does this tell you about the dial? What are you thoughts on the general appearance of the movement? Does the serial number match the year on the caseback?

You have a good intuition. Serial is out of range: http://speedmaster101.com/145-012/. Bracelet is older than case back. Movement and case back are rusty or too worn out for that pristine case. Bezel is obviously much newer. Hands and dial are modern replacements since the lumes still glow brightly. This watch is only worth for parts.

Adding to the mix, service crown, and are those 105.012 short pushers?

If I was you, looking for my first vintage watch, I'd stop looking at a particular item the very minute I saw pictures of a movement that distressed. That is a sure sign of a watch having been neglected - move along to the next piece immediately! Simply not worth the bother... You are looking for something that'll be relatively trouble free, or else the experience will sour it for you.
