IS this a service case or a fake? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-factory-speedmaster-moon-watch-145-0022-complete-stainless-steel-case/123348983535?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Don't really know, but the engraving and Hippocampus on the caseback look off to me. Edit: BTW, I think a mod must have dropped this pic into my post instead of the one above.
I think it's good. 1. These cases aren't often faked. 2. This seller's eBay store carries tons of high end watch parts, most of which are unquestionably genuine. 3. Inside of caseback is perfect. 4. Hippocampus looks good, though Omega symbol underneath is wonky. There are different versions of this caseback in existence.
This picture from Speedmaster101 is from a 145.022-71, right? The caseback engravings can vary from reference to reference. MWO covers this in-depth quite well, and the seller's pictures, although blurry, seem to depict a genuine service case.
No clue. But I find it strange that a brand would purposefully change the dimensions (or aspect ratio) of their own logo like that. I understand it's quite likely Omega did just that, but I don't understand why any company would compromise their own brand marks by making them "sort of similar" instead of precisely identical from one product to the next. Especially a logo as simple as that one. The Omega logo could be - and in my opinion, should be - like the Nike swoosh logo or the Apple logo. The very same over long periods of time. I mean, I know precision is generally not the name of the game when it comes to mechanical watches, but still. You'd think a marketing guy in Switzerland would get a grasp on the Omega logo at some point.
In my eyes this is a genuine service part (ref. 145.0022 / 345.0022) from younger production. It's 'authentic', but not vintage. Omega had several case re-editions for vintage watches and what I know is they always added a '0' to the reference.
I guess I know very little about modern Speedmaster service parts. Considering that I thought this was fake, I guess I might have a harder time enjoying a modern speedmaster than I realized. I now agree that the caseback is perfectly fine. The tachymetre font does look a little odd still, but I realize now that my knowledge of modern parts are lacking, so it's probably fine. Caseback from a sales post this year:
I concur...bezel is almost like, what, a dot-nearly-halfway-under-next-to-90. Not straight next to 90, as most service bezels nowadays are..
Upon further consideration I think my previous statement may have been a little hasty. I've checked other similar cases and this case could be original.
