    Actually it does look correct.

Photos are not high enough resolution to really tell but I am pretty sure it's tired, and needs a service. Can't see the serial.

a few more pix, and serial number is 2998-62

i know the bezel is a bit worn, but i'm wondering how seriously that affects value-i like how it looks, and the face and hands look to be in good condition...

FWIW - I kicked the tires on this one a while ago. It's all correct, but I just can't get over the condition relative to the price. The seller won't budge and I think I'd have a serious case of buyer's remorse if I paid close to $14K (after servicing) for an example that looks so tired. I really want a 2998/105.002, but couldn't bring myself to go all-in on this one. Best of luck if you do.

Also, a little piece of advice since I see that you're new here. In the future - rather than just posting pictures from Chrono24 and saying "is this alright?" - try to provide some of your own opinions on the piece's condition / originality. Not trying to be dickish, but it's not going to be any help to you either if you have to rely on other people to vet potential purchases every time. Others will chime in much more readily as well if it shows you've done quite a bit of work.

12k euro is not cheap but is 'fair' for this piece -- somebody will be willing to pay 12k euro for this if the seller is patient. Its getting more expensive everyday. You can find a bezel in eBay in the future if that is the only thing that bothers you.

operative phrase is 'you're new here' ..yes, i'm new to the watch world (i'm a refugee from the vintage car world)..so in short, i don't really have any opinions based on experience, only what i've read on the internet, and from talking to people who know more than me, which at the moment is almost everyone....generally, and i don't mean to sound dickish, but people are quite helpful :)

my uninformed opinion is that the watch doesn't look bad at all for a 50 year old piece-yes, the bezel is scratched, but face looks good, hands have their lume (if that's even a phrase) ..is it mint? i don't think so, but it looks pretty good-now, seeing as i'm clueless, can someone tell me why it's so bad? :)

    thank you!

Here's a close cousin, 105.002 to compare. The 2998-62 and 105.002 are essentially the same watch.

    IMG_20150930_124806.jpg

This one isn't perfect either, but if you compare, you may notice some differences.

The hour plots on your watch are either scraped clean or have very light coloured lume. The orangey colour is typically a little more desirable.

The bezel is certainly quite beat up on the one you posted. Some like that look, some don't.

The lugs look a fair bit polished (though mine is too).

Generally, the watch just looks like it's been driven hard and put away wet. It's a bit sterile. The term 'tired' is often used to describe watches like this.

So, while it does all look correct, it doesn't really look attractive. But then, attractive is pretty subjective.

It's not giving me that rumble in my tum tum that I'd want if I was blowing 12k.

It's got that 'halo' going on around the hour markers that I always associate with either scraped or redone lume.

There are a decent amount of people looking for these watches and there's a reason why this one hasn't gone yet. The condition doesn't quite match the price. However, it might very soon...

that's fascinating! thanks so much...i had no idea that the orangey color was more appealing-the seller says (and i suppose he would) that it's all original, and untouched...what would scrape the hour plots clean? an overzealous servicing?

so here's a question-i've been offered a very mint ed white, (no band, box or papers) for 15k, which seems expensive-i like it, but i FAR prefer the look of the earlier watches..

Water ingress can turn the plots a mouldy green, so the old lume is often removed by a watchmaker, leaving only the White paint underneath. It's down to personal preference, but collectors generally prefer the yellow/orange of nicely aged tritium/radium. Gives the dial a warmth and character that took years to build.

Re the Ed White, that price is huge. It wants to be completely NOS for that, which I won't be. Even then it's still expensive.

I've just realised the ed White has no box, papers or bracelet. That price is daft.
