I love the gold markers, hands and the texturing on the date surround but I don’t know if the font is right for the Seamaster bit (shouldn’t it have a dropped r?), I wonder if it should say Calendar since it has a date window and the angle of the numbers on the dial looks a bit odd except I’m not familiar enough with Omegas to know if this is correct or not. It’s supposed to be a CAL.562 REF 166.003. Any thoughts? It’s pretty much exactly what I’m looking for especially the size at 35mm
I would say dial is original (or at least a very well repainted one to my sight), although I'll pass unless it's a bargain. Movement is in poor condition, rotor has been replaced almost certainly. Those white face-gold markers combinations are pretty common.
I was so taken with the face that I didn’t even look closely at the movement thanks for pointing it out. I’ll keep looking!
The r is fine. Dial imo original. If price is right i would'nt fall over tge rotor. Even if it was replaced (i dont know) you carry a watch around the wrist and look at a dial and case. Who gives a $ about the rotor if it's omega and functions properly. The 166003 came originally with a sunken crown so my bet is that the crown is a replacement. But those sunken crowns are terrible for regular use so if it's gonna be a regular wearer, who cares. So if the price is right... I would not pay over $ 400/450 because of the light deterioration of the dial and rotor rub. Good luck
I agree with @Shabbaz. It’s a nice looking watch and I’d happily wear it but you have to factor into the price the cost of a service, which it looks like it needs.
Factor the service as soon as you get it, lume missing on hand and wrong crown. Keep looking in my book unless cheap.
Well it’s cheap.. ($600NZD currently) but I’m not keen on the unknowns around the service so I think I’ll pass on this one. Thank you for your feedback and advice.
I think the dial is original too, these 60’s silver finish dials do stand the test of time extremely well. Interesting that’s it’s marked as a Chronometer grade movement, not that common in 562 calibre Seamasters, and I’d certainly be interested because of that. In need of a service and a thorough clean so you’d need to budget for the extra expense. Here’s my 166.002 to complete the set... Shows you the correct crown as well.
The crown on the watch in the OP is a wrong replacement and the movement is a franken. A redial, I am afraid.
You think? I am surprised, but your Omega knowledge is vastly greater than mine. I had always wondered if it should have had the little lume dots in the ends of the indices, but if it’s been reprinted it’s been done brilliantly well, as the font weight and style is correct.
Hi ConElPueblo,do you think that my vertically brushed dials are redials? I am an Omega collector Over years and I have seen a lot of these dials on the references 165.001-165.003 bzw.166.001-166.003! I also have a ref.166.001 with sunburst finish.
It is indeed, never noticed that before and slightly annoyed about it too. Oh well, you live and learn, but it’s been on my wrist for three and a half years, and I still love it.
