I'm just getting into doing research on Speedmasters, as I hope to get one when I finish my PhD in a year or so. I came across this: http://forums.watchnet.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=723003&rid=0 There's no way that's still functioning correctly, with that movement, at such a cheap price, right? Something seems fishy, but I'm just starting to dip my toes in this pool, and that seems like an impossibly good price, right?
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. The seller just registered and has 2 posts. We've had scammers here offering vintage Speedmasters for similar and lower prices. We sniffed them out quick and banned them. Can't say for sure if that is legit or not, but if it is the guy is asking half of what it's worth. If he can post on a forum with pictures, he can search for the value of a watch.
They say if it seems too good to be true.... I don't know that I've ever seen a working speedy that cheap...let alone a 321.
The email doesn't bring up much of anything on Google. I'm curious if he would actually take PayPal or will he push for bank wire.
The photo is taken from a spanish WRUW thread http://www.relogioserelogios.com.br...opicID=11298&PagePosition2=565&PagePosition=2 He's also selling a 1970 Mark II for $1000. And he promises to return "for any reason." http://www.mywatchmart.com/listing/98033-fs-omega-speedmaster-mark-ii-cal-861/ Stranger danger for sure.
I sent a e-mail in spanish very clear. Ecuador like Argentina has a lot of shackles to send many articles out side the country. Will see.
I fell for a scam like this many years ago. Seller listed a watch worth $1K for $300. Paid with paypal thinking I would be safe. Shipped me a $5 watch, closed his paypal account and ran.
Sending this guy offers really is the Speedmaster equivalent of drunken blokes pissing on the third rail and hoping not to get their frank melted off.
Exactly. If he sends you nothing, PayPal will make you whole. If he sends you anything, PayPal will refuse to get bogged down in a "fake/genuine" debate, and you're screwed.
And the problem is some sucker will fall for the bait. Much like the countless emails in my spam folder suggesting I can make a million dollars if they can temporarily transfer $6 million in my US bank account from their insert third world county.
I can't believe anyone here is even bothering to email this guy. The pictures are ripped off from WRUW threads in a Spanish forum. He's listing one watch on one forum, and this Speedy on a different forum, with almost identical language in the ad. Low post counts on both forums. But he's not listed either watch in the Spanish watch forum (for obvious reasons that someone there will likely recognize the watches as the ones currently on his or her own wrist). So much going on here that should be enough to make anyone run away.
These scammers will NEVER go away because there's ALWAYS somebody stupid & greedy enough to screw over.
