First time buying a watch after 15 years without one. Been using cheap Casio's and (finally) looking to get something nice for a change.

Being quoted £550 for this Omega Constellation. It comes with new glass, repainted dial and just serviced. Is this worth it?

A big no - aside from the repainted dial the case is overpolished and the movement looks worn.

The movement is worn and has been stripped of its finish. The dial, already mentioned as refinished, was poorly done. The case is also corroded and will never seal properly.
This is a tarted up hussy, avoid!

Thanks guys, in general what should I expect to pay for a good example of the above?

Significant difference depending on what the dial is - piepan or not and original black dial or not. Of course the type of case metal would affect the value as well. For a nice stainless steel example I would say $600-1200.

Hmmm, seems a lot of the watches on ebay are 'professionally polished' and come with 'refinished dials'. Is ebay a particularly bad place to look or is this (or other forums) better bets?

Again thanks guys, dodged a bullet!

Ebay is a great place IF and only IF you have the knowledge.

Depends if you live in US or EU. The price are significantly lower in US due to $ lower rate. Not piepan on 5xx movement from 400-700$ or 600-900 euro depending on condition, strap, box papers...etc. Thats my experience monitoring prices in this months....but I'm quite new so please correct me if needed.

I've found two possibly suitable candidates.

    1. This 1966 Meister. Cal 712, Omega crystal, dial, strap, buckle:

Any idea how much I should expect to pay?

    2. 1968 Constellation. Movement is cal 564, Omega band and clasp, been polished though. All original box and papers:

Both watches in the UK, but a rough price for either would be appreciated.

Its tricky to tell from the photo but your 712 might be rose gold like mine. I think these are possibly less desirable than the 564s despite being ultra thin simply because the lower case 'automatic' means people assume they are redials. I paid £500 for mine, and don't regret it because its rose gold and the condition is good....

It does look like the rotor is rubbing hard on the case back in this one - might hurt value and needs sorting if the seller can't provide evidence its been done.

Thanks, and it looks like a good example of the exact same model as the 564 went for $750 just a few years ago here so I think I have my answers.

712 is missing its second hand and likely the pinion is missing or broken.

564 has a refinished dial, marked T SWISS MADE T and I don't see any lume on the dial or hands.

You have a keen eye, thanks for spotting that issue with the 712.

Regarding the 564, did a quick lookup - was the T prefix/suffix present only on watches with luminescent markers?

The 564 one is refinished I guess. Indicates tritium whilst there is no lume present on dial or hands.
