Hey guys i'm looking at buying a vintage seamaster calibre 1020. As far as i can tell its refurbished (new dial + polished case + who knows what else) but my biggest concern is the movement. I'm far from knowledgable on the matter but it seems to be quite dirty looking inside (perhaps water damage?). Would like to hear your thoughts, thanks!

Yes, there is evidence of moisture having been inside the movement at some time. Its not one I would recommend on this point alone.

I own a watch with the same movement. They are not the best meaning that the rotor needs some additional love and services. If not, it will start wobbling...
Plus it has this water damage...

That movement family can lead to a whole lot of hurt if you get a bad one, ask me how I know! The 1000/1010/1020 series just don't seem as robust as the 550/560s and are certainly less attractively decorated.

Seriously, that amount of obvious dirt and tarnish is a red flag for me, that needs a service urgently and I wouldn't be surprised if some components needed replacing. It may not necessarily be water damage but it amounts to the same thing: a poorly movment.
