@Somegan If you're going to bump up the budget, check out the below post and story. If you're not set on the original Pierce Brosnan era watch it seems the popular opinion is the caliber 2500D with a ceramic bezel is the best bang for the buck. Take your time and happy hunting!

Also, follow this thread. SMPs get posted there pretty frequently.

$2500 isn't impossible, especially with a little haggling. Some reputable sellers with the 41mm in stock, some quartz, some auto:

These are all highly trusted online sellers of pre-owned watches. You're much better off going with one of these places (even if you have to pay a bit more) than taking a gamble on eBay or Chrono24. (Yes, I know eBay has its authentication service now, but I've heard mixed things.) With these places, you'll know you're getting a legit watch that has been at least minimally serviced/checked/pressure-tested, and it should come with their own warranty and be returnable should any issues arise. Peace of mind is worth a couple hundred bucks, in my view.

Hold onto your hat OP as we plan to list our 41mm automatic 2531.80 for sale here within the next few days as soon as we get the chance, and a helluva lot cheaper than $2500. It's also in beautiful original condition. Whether you buy from me or not, try to stick to buying from the membership on this forum so you get a genuine watch that is described accurately 馃憤

Good advice on buying from this forum 馃憤
About 4 years ago I bought a Quartz 39mm Hydroconquest off Ebay that i later found out was fake.
At the time there were similar watches on different watch forums with the full set for the same or even cheaper price.

eBay is a terrible idea for anyone who isn鈥檛 qualified to judge authenticity and quality, and who isn鈥檛 prepared to deal with transaction headaches. I know the vast majority of sales are just fine, but when they go bad, they go very bad, and eBay probably won鈥檛 have your back. The same is true (imo) with Chrono24, though it鈥檚 a little less wild there.

Stick with trusted, major sellers. Or buy from the forum and do your diligence researching the seller鈥檚 previous feedback and posting history. Of course a private seller鈥攅ven a well liked one on a forum鈥攑robably can鈥檛 offer a warranty or guarantee waterproofness or authenticity (short of service paperwork), and if something goes south, you don鈥檛 have a corporate policy to fall back on. But reputation is a big deal here on OF (so you鈥檇 have your revenge in the feedback process), and if someone posted a sketchy watch in the first place, we鈥檇 be on it like flies on sh!t.
