    unless we're talking about pre WWII collectible watches then as long as the watch is in good condition nobody really minds if things like the dial are refinished. It was also the habit of American watchmakers to swap movements within cases as needed, so as long as the type of movement corresponds with the date of the watch then everything is cool.

    for the collectibles it's a different matter.

    vintagewatchforums is the place to go for Hamilton information. you can browse the respective catalog up to about 1969/70. After that it gets a bit hazy as the company dropped the ball with respect to documentation.
