    Hi,
I'm about to make an offer on my first Rolex. The seller claims this watch shows no signs of polishing - what does it look like to you? Any other comments on the watch condition would be very helpful as well

    Many thanks for your help!
    Peter

What year does it claim to be?

It looks very clean to my eye.

I personally would want to see higher resolution photos to look at the case chamfers as they aren't very evident in these photos. But I'm no expert.

It looks good to me, lug holes are still nice and sharp. But pics could be better.
    Like the all black bezel.

The watch is from 2003. To be honest, I don't really mind if it's been polished a little bit, as long as it does not deviate much from the original in terms of finishing, proportions, lug width etc. Apologies about the quality of the pictures
    Thanks!

If it has been polished it was a mild one. Looks very nice to me.
They are very attractice with the black insert.
    Best of luck.

Unpolished, minimally polished ... whatever. It looks fine to me. A clean watch that has been worn a bit.

Looks nice. Can’t say if it’s been polished, but I would let kick it out of bed.

I'd say touched but lightly...I wouldn't knock back based on case condition at least.

Impossible to say from those pictures. Get pictures from these angles and post again. The watch you posted has a super luminova dial so I'm guessing it's a 16710, what year is it from? The bevels were different depending on the year.

As others have said it is not possible to determine anything from the photos but I cannot see the chamfers, so from these photos I would say it had been slightly polished but it could also just be the light not showing the chamfers.

But the horns appear nice and thick so if it has had a polish it is probably a very light one. Looks like a nice example.

Here is also a couple of photos of my unpolished 16710.

Thank you so much for your help! I'll post better pictures when I get them.

In the meantime, I have a follow up question if you don't mind... Would you rather go for the watch from my original post (assuming it was indeed lightly polished, maybe chamfers are gone), or an unpolished watch (according to seller) which has imperfections like the ones below (all other things equal):

Do these look serious to you? Again, I do apologise I don't have better photos available

Here's another picture of the second watch - somehow these scratches do not show from a different angle:

The prices for both watches are similar. Obviously one is Pepsi and one Black, but that's an entirely separate consideration

My experience is that you won't see those few scratches if you don't mind them being there. If the watch is for keeps and not to flip in the near future to me things like that are not a problem. I have an unpolished coke Swiss only with several light scratches and scuffmarks and do not see them. And it stops me from babying the watch.
Ultimately it is up to you how you feel about it. If you prefer a perfect example then that is what you need to buy.

What @Huus said. You probably won’t notice scratches that small. Close ups are dangerous as you will dwell on things you normally almost wouldn’t notice. Talking the two watches only (do not know the sellers) I could see myself buying any one of them. They look fine.

I like the pepsi (it’s the true classic) but wear an all black more. Haven’t worn the coke yet.

I agree with the scratches, you won't really notice them unless you're one of those perfectionists.

Have it dealt with by Rolex when you send it in for service to them. I like the Pepsi bezel since I like colour rather then solid black.

But it's up to you whether you choose one or the other.

Thank you all - that's very helpful. Sounds like the scratches on the second watch are minor and it's really down to me to make the choice... Not an easy one! I'll keep you posted.
