I'm trying to decide on buying a black dial Constellation. The case is very nice and unpolished, but I'm not sure of the dial. I'm thinking it could be a re-dial and the seller has so far only sent me very bad and small mobile photos. Could some expert on the subject lend me an eye and tell me what you see?
    Many thanks!

Poor quality pictures, but the scripts seems to be ok,
and also the edge of the piepan shown in the second picture between 12 & 1 markers.
Let the experts comment on it.

I don't know if it's just the pictures but the seconds slash' print looks quite thick and is there some bubbling around the star? I would lean towards redial unless you can get some better pics..But the text looks ok, and it's the correct gilt lettering I think.

Very poor photos and as well these silver gilt scripts are very hard to photograph under the best of circumstance.
Here are some enlargements of an original dial.

I would be inclined to take a chance on this one, provided it is affordable.

Thanks everyone for your input! I have asked the seller for better photos but no reply yet, but will update if I do.

If you cannot get better pics, just buy it.

No risk, no gain. The close-ups above are of an eBay watch discussed a few years ago. Everyone was afraid to purchase what turned out to be a pristine example one owner watch (former owner was the founder of Amway Corp).

Agreed. Sometimes it pays to take an informed risk, I think this looks like a well preserved example if it turns out to be legit.

Would this be a good reference photo?

Sure, something with this quality would help identifying the authenticity of the OP

If you wanted to use it for reference for what a decent redial is, yes. The tell is the ink of the lettering - it should be the same color as the hands & dial furniture.

Ups... I thought it was original. Any other signs of redial?

Aha, so the writing on this one should have been gilt?

Gold gilt. Also by this time the process for lettering may have changed from the underlaying and masking technique.

I'm at a total loss on this one. I would lean a bit towards original, except for the crown.

A lot depends on the price. Even if a redial, it's a nice, high quality job.

In general true but I have seen exceptions to this rule. I think the one picture here looks to me to be an original dial.
