I have been speaking to an ebay seller about a Seamaster. He says he has only owned it for 4 months and he has no record of it ever being serviced. Can anyone tell if it is authentic? what kind of trouble am I asking for by buying a watch that may have been neglected on service?

Without pictures of the movement and the inside of the caseback, it's difficult to say anything at all.

However, I'm not loving the dial. Fonts of "Omega Automatic" and "Seamaster" see a bit modern for this style of case. I think it has been redialled.

    I'd pass on this one.

Appreciate the advice gatorcpa. Unrelated to this thread, I am also a CPA in Florida.

Also the crown and stem appear to have sustained some damage :(

Gold plated case is heavily worn, nasty scratch on the dial.

Be patient, wait for something nice.

    More like 1960's. I don't like Craig's list

    I've heard too many "stories".

I always keep my guard up on craigslist. The seller is in his 70s and claims to be the original owner. He is also willing to meet at a jeweler of my choice to get it checked out.

Sorry, but this is a horrible watch.

Poorly refinished dial, incorrect hands, over polished case and a movement made up of mismatched parts.

I had a snipe for the above watch as I need some 505 movement parts and was hoping that the terrible redial and hugely polished case would be obvious enough to keep the price down where it should be. If I had won it I would have immediately broken it for those parts... sorry - just being honest about the condition of your purchase.

    Your senses are sharpening

That was a good example (condition wise) and the added box/receipt gives it a nice touch.

The engraving on the caseback may not suit some serious collectors, but for a nice daily watch, who cares.

Why not try to get one from here. I find there are lots of reputable vintage omega sellers on this forum and the prices are also better than eBay.

I looked on here and didn't see anything that is in my price range. The ones I have been bidding on are all under $500.
