Movement no. 13148147 dates it to 1952/3 and it looks like it needs a service. The dial looks a bit off to my inexperienced eye. I believe the S of seamaster should be a coat hanger type, which someone has tried to do but not correctly. I'd avoid it.
2nd one looks good but price is still a little on the high side for me. Would not rush into a purchase and would keep an eye out on the for sale forum!
Why does it matter? Most sellers on the sales forum will happily ship overseas. Don't you get hit with VAT on local eBay purchases? Not sure how it goes in the UK. gatorcpa
We have no such thing as VAT in the US. Most US States charge sales tax only on items delivered within that state. If you are purchasing for export, then you will not subject to it at all. Once the watch hits the UK border, it will likely be subject to VAT/HM Customs, which I think is roughly the same. Around 20% or so of the declared value, IIRC. What I don't know if whether sellers in the UK include VAT in the final auction or by-it-now prices on eBay. That may explain some of the ridiculous prices I see on watches located there on eBay. Take care, gatorcpa
No they don't include the vat. So it would be the same situation if I was to buy from the USA on here. Thank you for your time
Ummmmm.... you don't pay vat on used items. You do pay import duty, so assume a us watch is going to be 20% more expensive than a uk watch and this is added on by the courier.
To be honest that's a good price here, I just don't know what I need to be checking out for to see that it's not a frankenwatch! Dials good and original so that's a good start
