Came across an advertisement online. Someone is selling a converted pocket watch, that is now a wrist watch. What the ?? Current bid is €475. But ok, it measures only 50mm without crown...

Search "wandolec" or "ukranian" or "Frankenmaster" and read the threads.

Because that way you will get your answers and have a great time while doing it. If, however, you don't feel like it the short answer is:

    It is NOT a thing.

Are you implying that you are wearing these watches?

I guess the right way to put it is "It is a thing, but not the real thing"

There is a market for converted pocket watches, and indeed those conversions are at the birth of wrist watch-making. But these modern conversions are just lazy ways to profit on a brand's prestige.

should you consider such a thing for investment purposed rest assured.... you've wasted your money.

these watches are only worth what you would pay for the novelty value. It might be cool to have one for 50 bucks in the same way a fake Rolex Submariner is fun for that money. But spending real money for such a thing is a waste because it will never be more than it is..... a piece of novel junk.

Those hands might be original to the movement though......
