Hello and thank you for allowing me to join this forum. I bought this recently at a car boot sale and thought my luck was in...on closer inspection, I think not. Comments gratefully received.

Your second thought is correct - you were not lucky...

O M G! That is awful! If you “stole” it, it was a cheap lesson.

Does it work? I would have bought that for £3, if only for the pleasure of conspicuously wearing it to do hazardous (for the watch!) jobs whilst telling people yes, this is my watch I was given in the 70s and I've been told it's very valuable, but it's a tool watch and it'll just have to take whatever punishment I choose to give it. Whoops, just banged it on that wall....

Couldn't do it. Bc I would be afraid someone would notice and I would feel like a dumbass I call people out all the time. I could only hope they would have the decency to put me on the spot aswell

No battery, think it’s automatic but I’m no watch guru, haven’t a clue really!

I don’t understand- I thought quartz movements needed batteries, what keeps it going?

Does it start and stop if you don’t wind it?

What makes you think it doesn’t have a battery?

Note quartz movements second hand will tick, a mechanical movement will sweep or tick around 5 times a second appearing to sweep.

If you don’t wear it and you don’t wind it, and it runs, it has a battery. Have someone check it over and educate you about what you have. I think we are quite safe in saying that it is neither self winding or manual wind.

What keeps this fake watch going? Energy.

You came here and posted a real question on a fake watch.

You received the information you needed immediately.

And now experienced watch collectors here are discussing the battery level of this fake watch?

I like these forums for being so human, after all. :)

I'm in heaven... (Shit, I hope this won't be my next earworm).

Clearly you all are not familiar with the highly sought after radial dial prototype Speedmaster.
