So what's a guy to do if he's on a self-imposed watch buying moratorium but somebody contacts him about a "dibs" he made months back?
If it's something you really want, get it. Just sell something out of the collection to maintain homeostasis
If it's "self imposed" then you can probably have a chat with the parole board and get an early release
I see "dibs" as a right of first refusal, not as a commitment. Be strong, respect the moratorium, attend a watchoholics anonymous meeting tonight as reinforcement.
Ask a member friend who will like the watch as much as you do. Give that right to buy for him, then extend your Dibs to him. Solve both ethical and desire dilemma.
Tough one Dennis. If it's a must have for your collection, then it becomes a question of can you make it work? Sell a less desirable piece from your collection to help fund this new piece. If there's nothing you can part with, then I like the suggestion of transferring your dibs to someone else you know would appreciate it as much as you. You're on a self-imposed moratorium for a reason, I would stick to it myself. Seems to me there will always be something to chase after once the moratorium is lifted. Just my 2 cents.
Personally I am not big on the idea of transferring dibs, there is possibly someone else hoping for a 2nd dibs. So if you absolutely cannot take it you can either ask the seller if they can wait a few months, or they can put it up in the FS forum.
Good god everyone! The man is receiving a very clear message from the watch gods. It would be incredibly dangerous to ignore it. Dennis, if you want a Future where every grail is underbid, where every longines is redialled, where every reverso is quartz, go ahead and ignore this sign with impunity....
