Thanks for replying gatorpal. I would like to know if this watch looks a good buy at £995 for this model and year. The seller said it’s a super clean example and a good investment. I’m new to this and don’t want to make a mistake. I have inherited this money from my mum. Thank you

"gatorpal", I like that. 😉

It looks like a nice watch, but at that price it's not a good investment, and we don't generally recommend watches like this as investments anyway. If you like the watch and will enjoy it for a long time, then there is nothing wrong with buying it. However, if you tried to sell it yourself, you would not be able to get your money back. Also, old watches generally need to be serviced to run properly, so it's likely you'll need to spend another few hundred GBP on that at some point.

I'm not 100% sure but it looks like a 14701 to me. If it is that reference then it should have very pronounced bevels on the lugs which this one doesn't (due to polishing)

Do you also have a photo of the inside case back, that will give us the reference number? Also it has the wrong crown.

So, a few more details needed.... Are you and the seller in the UK? But even that can not explain the exorbitant price. After Brexit vintage watch prices inside the UK have skyrocketed.Pounds 750 might even be too high for that one. Take your time. There are millions of vintage Watches out there. Buy what you like to wear , forget investment. Look up our member Michael English in the UK. He is well connected in the UK and can give you some advice, if you don't want to buy overseas. Many other UK members here as well. Maybe they can chime in . Good luck.

@Old girl best look in the "Recommended Vintage OMEGA WATCHES (only) On EBAY (NOT for Inquiries)" thread if you're after your first vintage watch. A lot of the seasoned members from the forum post Ebay listings of good quality time pieces at fair prices. I've brought a couple of Seamasters that were listed in there.

Is it that particular reference you’re looking for or are you just looking for a 50’s/60’s Omega/Seamaster?

UK prices (especially since Brexit) have increased but you can still find very nice vintage Omegas in the sub £500 category. You’ll also need to budget c.£250 for a service. Patience is key to finding a good watch at a reasonable price.

As above, keep an eye on the recommended eBay thread as good examples do come up there.

My advise would be to be patient. There will always be more watches. Take some time to read various posts on the forum to refine your preferences.

Is there any reason you’re looking at just a cal 503? What about the 60’s cal 562/5?

If it matters to you, that watch in the first post is from more like 1961 than 1959

Actually ignore me, I was working from slightly faulty memory. Low 17m serials are usually seen on 1960 pieces.
