    Thanks for stopping in.

In this unusual situation, literally all of the information about the watch in questions is on the card. It is for a modern speedmaster. Given that you apparently don’t have the watch that this warranty card belongs to, it makes me wonder why you have this card.

Hard to say the exact year, but the card (and the watch in the photos) is not more then a few years old.

The number that starts with 311 is the model # (go to Omega's web site and search on it).

1863 is the caliber (movement) designation.

If someone tried telling you it was from 1972 you should immediately beat them upon the head with a wet noodle.

Or a hard baseball bat, given the fact that this watch is no more than 4 years old or so.

It’s a nice Speedy by the way. And the serial number on the case matches the warranty card, so there’s that.

The serial number won’t help you in determine the date (at least not without requesting an extract from the archives) as Omega stopped numbering movements consecutively a while ago.

The new Omega reference system (switch from 3573.50 to 311.30.42.30.01.006) began in 2014, so it's a pretty narrow range anyway

I am not sure this last part is true. In my experience, the higher the number the more recent the watch within its series. Omega aren’t like Rolex who use random serials, it is just that some runs of movements like 1861s etc are serialed as batches and used up slowly. This means that Speedmasters sat at 44-48m and then 77-78m for many years when other series serials advanced quicker. In my experience you can deduce the age of an Omega from the serial right up to fairly recently if you understand the pattern within the model.

The operative part being ‘within the series’. You are correct in that the various movements are still consecutively numbered. But as you say, today you would need more information to estimate a date than just the serial number and a single convenient table. I’ve seen 2004 Omegas in the high 50 millions, and 2002 ones in the low 80s (different movements, indeed).

Yep. You can still date them pretty accurately though given serial and model/movement.
