I'm watching and maybe even contemplating this Speedmaster. But since I'm far from being an expert - I do have the infamous book though - I'd like your help in finding any redials/reluming or other nonos. At present this is the only pic I have available. I've asked for more but that might take a few days. Thanks for your help, caveats and any other ideas.
Hard to say from just 1 single picture. I see stepped dial, so that is good for -69. To me lume on the hands and dial looks to be same color, so it could be original, but dont take that to hart. Bezel and pushers look to be correct for -69 as well. Post more pics when you have them and experts will chime in
Dot depends on the serial, early 69 should have one, but there is a change to DNN around 305***something....
My -69 is DN90 (serial 313...). According to speedy101, 30M+ serial should have DN90. Below that DON. Of course there is always exception to the rules. And these are not really rules, but more of guidelines so....
I see no flags in that picture for anything incorrect for a 145.022-69. Price should reflect that it is not a DON. There is a price difference between the 2 correct bezels. Serial number and caseback still need verification before purchase.
I've got some more pics and info: The bracelet is a 1171/1 which is of a later date. The endpieces are 633 I'm still waiting for the movement serial. Caseback outside Caseback inside Dust cover To my untrained eye, all these seem to fit. Or am I mistaken?
Looks fine to me - seems to fit all the guide lines assuming the serial number denotes which bezel should be fitted. However, I'm certainly not an expert.
The seller isn't the fastest reactor in the world. It took him a week to get me the extra pics. I repeated my request for the serial. Let's hope it won't take another week.
Agree with all thus far that it seems to check the boxes. Question for the group: I have noticed on many of these watches, this one included, where the "60" on the bezel at 12 o'clock is not lined up with the 12 (its slightly to the left of center). Does that suggest the bezel has been removed and replaced? Even if replaced, the bezel on this piece is accurate for the reference, but more curious for thoughts.
Just noticed that, maybe it was removed during a service and clumsily put back on? Also take a slight knock down on price to account for the later bracelet.
I got the serial at last. Its 3100XXXX That makes it ca. 1969 / 1970 So am I right in supposing that the watch is more or less correct?
Should be fine, the bracelet is younger as you mentioned, if I may ask, how much does he ask? Patina looks really nice from that one picture.
It is an auction in Geneva. Estimate is crazy low $2000 to get people in. I got movement pics and it looks a nice genuine watch except for the later bracelet. Will likely double the estimate.
Oh...and watch out for the T&C's Premium of 22% or for internet bidders 25%. Also, on the auction house T&C ------ The lot will go to the bidder that has offered the highest bid. However, the winning bid will be calculated by adding 10% to the second highest bid.-------- I have not seen this before.
