Hey guys, Are dials with complete loss of lume a no go, or is there a case to make in their defense? Thanks! J
Compared to a nice 105.003 that can easily hit $7K, this drops the value down considerably IMO. However, I'd rather have washed markers than re-lumed. If I were making a defense, it'd follow the logic of tritium being dead anyway, making them virtually equal in function. That doesn't fly on the market though
My first Speedmaster had scraped lume. It made the dial look too white and very flat. It was soon sold as for me it was indefensible.
My new/old 105.012-66, yes CB case, has missing lume. Big deal, better missing than re-lumed! Obviously it does not bother me as it's on the way for service and a consult on what to do about the modern chrono sweep, markings under the crystal between 10 & 3 and a realignment of the DON bezel. When it returns I'm going to wear it everyday only on a leather strap and not the original 1039 bracelet.
Doesn't bother me. Better than bloby, flacking Lume falling off the watch face and damaging the movement.
Sorry but that dial is hugly! It's not just the missing lume but the spotting (?water damage) is bad. The watch looks like it's led a hard life. I guess you could look at it as a rescue watch and give it a better home.
