Good day all. I firstly am an avid Omega fan. I see nothing better for my wrist. Love the look. Never overly ostentatious. Simple, elegant, durable. I have several and if not for classsic cars would have a damn sight more.
I mentioned classic cars and indeed have a penchant for all things classic. This led me to one day finding myself attracted to a vintage burin pocket watch. Which in turn, as one does, bought a vintage omega pocket watch.
But have i bought a hybrid or indeed an original.
The value is not the issue here. I would simply like to know if i am sporting an original Omega.
Can any of you please advise me

    Hey there,

Yes it is a real Omega. These were general issue pocketwatches. If you Google "GSTP Omega Pocketwatch" there will be more information to look at :)

    Original. Nice.

An ex-military issued watch used by the British services (GSTP = General Service Trade Pattern or General Service Temporary Pattern).
It has an inexpensive but very reliable caliber 38.5 L 15p (L = Lèpine, the style of the watch, 15p = 15 jewels or rubies). The 38.5 was made from 1932 to about 1966.
The movement serial number dates your watch to the mid 1940s.

Exelent news. Thank you very much. I will now happily add it to my meagre collection.

I thought that was for condoms. No. Really i did. I think a classic car and a classic watch dererve netter than a pair of levis. Dont you think? Ine must look the part wjen one gets the rare oppertunity to do so

This is definitely an individual thing. I pretty much wear Levis unless I am wearing shorts, and have zero issues wearing vintage watches or driving an old Porsche when dressed that way. I can't see dressing a certain way just to wear a watch or drive a car. Plus how dressed up do you want to get to drive your vintage sportscar on a road racing course?

This is the first Omega GSTP I've seen, they're usually Helvetia or Moeris and sometimes Civitas and not too often JLC. Really very nice condition and a bonus being an Omega. Very nice Murray1967

I wear my classic watches and my dress watches with shorts and t-shirts. Sometimes my shorts have holes and I also drive a pickup truck. I guess I don't deserve my watches.:)

OMG how can you do that!
Of course you must dress to suit the watch and what you are doing.
How can you drive your 911 around the course without at least wearing a speedy ( just in case you need to check the revs) with band matching your racing suit and those pretty little ballet shoes so that one is able feel the pedals when toe/ heeling.
When dressing one must always select the watch first to suit where you are going then dress to match ,including matching colour and texture of leather on shoes , belt and band .
Next you will be telling me you don't wear a captains cap when sitting on your yacht.
This modern generation just has no style .

Ha ha ha. Great discussion point. Off course I wear normal cloths and wear my regular omega wrist watch. I have 2 planet ocean ones that I love.
But regarding period cloths. My wife and myself go on classic car rallies. My cars are all early 7os and one late 60s. When I go on a rally I love to wear cloths of the day. A real sense of occasion. Not like I dress like that every day. I wear coveralls every day. But I do love the chance to dress well. And a good watch and a good pair of shoes are part of it.
As you said, this is all completely personal choice.
