I have an 18K 2852 pie pan Constellation with sharks tooth dial which is being serviced as we speak, hence absence of photo. Is it a good idea to get an extract on a piece like this? Is it likely to offer anything other than date of production and an indication that the movement number actually belongs in that case (or not)? Worth or not do you think or is it a case of £95 better spent elsewhere?
As you say it will confirm the production year, movement number, reference number and place where it was sold. For me these info are a must on vintage watches. I would get one. I have asked one recently for a Speedmaster from '69 and I am happy to have this additional confirmation from Omega that case and movement match!
I recently got one for an Ed White which threw up the fact that it was NAAFI delivered but I don't expect there to be anything of additional interest like that on a 1959 Connie. I could be mistaken though!
Helped me solve the mystery of hallmarks on the outside case of my 18k connie 14381 Just search “ Whilst we are on 14381s - welcome honest reviews pls” On this omega vintage forum So yes, they can add value
I’ll probably do it just for idle curiosity but I do see the sense in those that don’t consider it not all that important or worth the outlay. I guess really I was asking wherever the gold dress watches like that could have extra info. Omega tool watches can occasionally offer the nice surprise of delivery to military or other organisation but I am guessing Gold watches probably don’t really offer this possibility.
With all the nefarious shenanigans surrounding Speedies I can see the value of getting an extract. Whilst a ‘nice to have’ I can’t see the point of getting an extract for a Connie unless you have some concerns about the authenticity or as above it poses some unanswered questions. Better to put the money towards your next watch.
BTW I have a Connie delivered to a NAAFI - but it came with box, papers and original receipt - so no extract required.
I had an 18K Constellation that I intended to get an Extract for but I sold the watch before I did. At the end of the day £95 is a few pints and a Whiskey, I would get one out of curiosity. This thread is lacking in one thing........
Nice. Is that a deluxe? 2853 perhaps? Mine has the normal cross hair dial with thinner pointed intermediate indices so perhaps my description of sharks tooth isn't correct. Maybe arrow head or dog tooth would have been better description.
With My other 18k dog leg connie, the extract confirmed that it was rose gold, confirmed in the “metal” section, and by the BB 168.005 ref. It also confirmed it was sent to Angola!!
At least the archive tells you that your movement is in the right kind of case, and its assembly date.
