Well here's an interesting one up for sale at a well known auction house in Geneva in the near future. Rare White gold 2852/3 Roman numerals on the quarters nicely patinated cross hair dial nice matching radium plots and inserts in hands and then there's crossed Ts.... cross hair bisecting the Ls.... iffy minute track.... would you spend CHF25,000-35,000 on this watch? as a thread is useless without pics
I can't even tell if that's a pie pan or not... You forgot to mention the missing "Swiss Made" as well Here's my previous 2852:
'Interesting' price expectation.......Photographs are abysmal This is the 18k 2852/ 2853..... I picked up last weekend Complete with 'Swiss Made'
For educational purposes, is the line through the star off on the OP? Also, are there ever instances where the crosshairs should go through the text on any original dials?
The star is slightly off the line but this isn’t a definitive ‘tell’ as photos can make lines look off centre. The cross hair should always go through the text on a Connie. There shouldn’t be crossed Ts on a 2852 The vertical cross hair should be to the left of the Ls (But it does move between the E and L on certain models) IIRC the cross hairs should stop at the numerals on a pie pan of this age but continue through to the edge on the domed version (someone correct me if I’m wrong with this)
How about this one which was auctioned in 2013, it has the same dial characteristics, with no visible Swiss Made and also the crossed T's and cross hairs running through the LL's. It had a much sharper case and a blued seconds hand (which looks incorrect to me) and went for CHF 17500. @Peemacgee do you have a link to the auction? I'm curious as to the serial number, who knows maybe it's the same dial/movement gone into a softer case, or there are more of these dials out there........ http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot/omega-a-rare-and-attractive-18k-white-5674842-details.aspx Then there's this one which sold for a cool CHF 35000, just about perfect This dial is signed Swiss Made and the case and dial look in exceptional shape http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot/omega-a-rare-and-attractive-18k-white-5430886-details.aspx
Here you go Same watch https://www.invaluable.com/auction-...mail&utm_campaign=keywordalertlive&utm_term=2 But they don’t mention a silver box
Same watch! Well that doesn't help the discussion much and the case sure looks better in those 2013 pictures!
I’m sure I read a comment by Desmond saying crossed Ts on a 2852 was a frankenwatch. And I can’t remember another cross hair dividing the Ls. There can’t be many white gold 2853s out there so I guess it’s 4 years of someone polishing their ‘precious’
Oooof... That last one..! I believe I may just have had an accident. Half-waffle, pie-pan dial with heart shaped markers - grail material right there. They put down the polishing cloth for long enough to get rid of the blued seconds hand and add some beige lume plots
my last PP dial steel Constellation with original and like new black dial and white gold hands and all WG markers..... original stretch band. kind regards. achim
IMO, the dial on the watch to be auctioned is a redial. That explains the lack of “Swiss Made” and the poor definition of the dial facets. gatorcpa
