    Hi everyone....

I have been thinking about the offerings that are trickling out of Baselworld and the ones that I find most interesting in highest MSRP order...

Omega Seamaster 1948. Just under 7 k..... we been talking about these..... for be the jury out until I can try one on. The devil is in the details on scaling up a case from 34 mm to 38 mm ... not as simple as I sounds.......
    IMG_1555.PNG

Longines Skin Diver ...I know the least about this one, very little on the net. On photo I saw on instagram....from the heritage line looks to be a remediation of the single crown super compressor w external fiber bezel.... the Nautilus. What little I have gotten.... case diameter is 42 mm ( 2 mm bigger then original , think that might be a minus as original was 40 mm w 20 mm strap) price just under 3000 USD.

    Photo from instagram from jasonheaton.

And here are some pics of originals and ads I quickly found on the net via google...

    IMG_1562.JPG IMG_1561.JPG IMG_1563.JPG

Doxa's offering of the Yellow dial Divingstar ......The God of the sea is back! The new SUB 300T Divingstar “Poseidon Edition” recreates one of the rarest 1970s DOXA for a new generation of divers and watch lovers. The new SUB300T is an exact recreation of the original pre-Synchron Era DOXA SUB300T, with almost identical case dimensions. 42mm Diameter. At 1995$ .. 500 off preorder (MSRP) 2495... just looked right to me and I pre-order one as soon as I read I had the built automatic HRV..! FYI limited edition of 500 pieces.

    IMG_1565.PNG
Certina DS 200m under 1000$ usd... it takes it design from the DS-2 super ph 500 m.....it looks like a stunner... but the big issue will be where can you get to see it if your in North America.....
    IMG_1559.JPG IMG_1560.JPG

So far these are my favorites ....Anyone else ?

I thought the Tudor 58 should be a winner for many (Asian wrists).

Also, I just read that the Longines Legend Diver is coming out on 36mm (if my math works out, the current size is 42mm/52mm lug to lug), it should be about 44-45mm lug to lug... which is a superb vintage dive size. (its a guess though)

I also preordered the DOXA several days ago, before you posted that there were 40 left. And I’m on the list for the Pepsi GMT and Apollo 8, but might be happy with just the Tudor GMT if I had to “settle”.

I would have preferred Rolex to have not limited the steel Pepsi GMT to jubilee bracelet by preventing the watch from accepting an oyster, even if that meant making it a Coke bezel instead. I’d like to know what they did to prevent other bracelets from fitting, i.e. did they move the spring bar holes, or do they make the lugs narrower? I like the Jubilee, but I don’t like being told what bracelet and strap I can use.

Great idea for a thread, Bill.

I hadn’t seen the Longines you posted... it looks beautiful but if it wears similarly to the Legend Diver, I fear it may wear a touch too large for my tastes at 42mm.

Overall, despite all the Rolex/Tudor GMT hype, I think it was a great year for divers.

I’m in love with the look of the Certina. Probably my favourite watch “in pictures” from the whole week. Same concerns in terms of wearability. The few wrist shots I’ve seen on Instagram make it wear very large... the lug to lug looks to be well in excess of 50mm.

The highlight for me - and the one watch I’ll most likely own by the end of the year - is the Black Bay 58:

    FCA7DE20-0F74-48F3-9450-D3EDC531A8AB.jpeg

Great size and it resolves my biggest issues with previous models... the 41mm Black Bay’s slab sides always felt awkward to me on-wrist.

One other standout was the Bulova Devil Diver LE in orange:

My non-diver standout is the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date at what promises to be a near-perfect 40mm:

Oris had a great diver release of their own with the Diver Sixty-Five Bronze Bezel... what a beauty... if not for the BB58, this would be next up on my list:

Agreed. I bought and sold the 41mm Tudor BBB, and while I do get the hype about it; I don't like the presence on my wrist. On nato/leather straps it just slips off the top of my skinny wrist.

Hopefully, the 58 resolves this (by being shorter/smaller) and slimmer.

I decided to replace my longines legend diver (too big) with the Tudor black bay 58 and then I see the new longines legend diver in 36...decisions decisions.

The one watch that came out if nowhere, yet the most interesting to me, is the new rootbeer gmt. I’m not into Rolex, or even two tone watches, but this looks fantastic. I love it.

I’m not a fan of gold watches in general, or the original root beer GMT, but this new release looks incredible from the photos I’ve seen. Not a watch I’d wear personally, but I finally “get it”.

I’m the same. The thing is, any angle or lighting I’ve seen so far, it still looks great, and could be worn very casually if one wanted. This was the standout to me by a mile for me.

My two cents, along with the Omega Seamaster 1948 which I am keen to see in person, the one that really caught my eye is GS's Blue ceramic Special edition limited edition (?). It really stood out against the onslaught of black / gold Black Bays in all the news feeds.
<Edit, have probably picked the worst photo of the thing to illustrate my point>

quick up date on the 1948 Seamaster ......

38 mm diameter and 19 mm lug width .... so far that sounds great..... next will be how it will sit on the wrist.....

I really love both those 1948 Seamasters! Wow! My vintage ardor is waning ... so many maintenance bills and horror stories, none of the latter being mine, thankfully. I would really consider one of these!

The subseconds one has a nice dial, but the caseback is pretty fugly. (pic from Hodinkee). What's with the boat and plane?

I think omega did a very good job of scaling up the subseconds seamaster from 34 to 38mm. The center seconds one not so much - looks like a redial.

I think this new Seamaster is rather on the big side with its 38 mms, I have seen some pictures on a bigger than average size wrist, and it did not feel right. And let's not talk about the price. :(
The BB 58 is my favorite new release even though I'm not really into divers, but I might consider this in the future, really great size. The BB41 feels so chunky for me. I hope it is also considerably thinner.
That 36 mm LLD came out as a ladies' watch so I'm not sure how it looks on a smaller sized man wrist. We will see, but this can be a really nice option for a few of us too, the 42mm one with these lugs makes it even bigger than a usual 42 mm diver.

I love the seamaster and the grand seiko. If I didn't have a long list of guns and watches I want I would jump on them.

These threads are back to look at.... they really speak to the addict in us all.

    Hi

Yes ,36 is still a very wearable size... most of the vintage Super compressors are 36 mm not counting lugs or crowns. the 36 will wear larger then "36" .....

I just glanced at the hodinkee article.... the white dial is very cool looking.... I have a vintage SC with a silvered dial very cool and the nubmer on my internal bezel are blue....

it looks like Longines took the 42 mm case and scaled it down.. This will be interesting asnthe 42 mm case they added slopped it to the crown edge to make it larger... and used a std size movement.... I forget the caliber that is in the original longines 42 mm SC.... oh well firer me...

So back to the 36 mm SC Diver... they kept the slopping metal to the crown so the space for the movement is smaller !
According to the article they use a flavor of the ETA2000
    here are the tech specs...
    Technical characteristics
    [IMG]
    8 lignes ¾ ‴

    Height 3,60 mm

    Diameter 19,40 mm

    • Hours, minutes, sweep second
    • Self-winding mechanism with ball bearing
    • Date, corrector
    • Stop second device
    • Regulator system ETACHRON and regulator corrector
    • 28.800 vibrations per hour; 4 Hz
    • 20 Jewels
    -----
    photos...
    dialside.png 60-Verso.png

In comparison to a Vintage 36 mm Super compressor.... like a Hamilton .....

    It uses a Hamilton 64A (ETA 2452) , other used a AS 1700 also have a 11.5"' diameter movement.....

    Features
    automatic
    sweep second
    date: set by changing 21-24h

    Data
    11.5''', Dm= 25.6mm, Do= 26.0mm
    H= 5.3mm
    F= 1.4mm
    T= 1.85mm
    21 jewels
    f = 18000 A/h
    power reserve 47h

    Hamilton_63A.jpg

So the new Longines is powered by a "petite" movement at 19.4 mm vs what was in the old 36 mm SC at 25.6 mm ( std ETA for a mans watch)...

I am not saying the timing is any better one way or another .... just I like movement that is full size... personally and one of my favorites is a 30T2SCRg... 30 stands for 30 mm.... hehehehehehe

But I have a collection of vintage SC watches most powered by a ETA 2452 's or AS 1700 s.....

I also not like when you get a Large case watch and open it up to see a movement that is sourounded by a plastic movement hold that takes up 90 % of the inside case space...

    But that is just me..

    Good Hunting

    Bill

Also, I just read that the Longines Legend Diver is coming out on 36mm (if my math works out, the current size is 42mm/52mm lug to lug), it should be about 44-45mm lug to lug... which is a superb vintage dive size. (its a guess though)
