just watched this and wanted to share... enjoy https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/servicing-the-speedmster-at-manfredi
Nice, thanks. I've seen a few of these and it still amazes me that they can put the watch back together. Especially in the case where, when one piece is removed, another piece SPRINGS out.
Hodinkee really makes videos with a production quality far above anything else out there even if everything turns into a hype machine
I used to visit Manfredi's in CT a lot before I moved out of NYC. Funny thing though was what I actually remembered most about this video is at the very end, the sound of the 1861 caliber winding
The level of detail inside these watches and the sheer # of complicated parts are simply amazing to me. Watches are truly works of art and watchmakers are artists. I really enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing!
you are welcome. its even more amazing if you consider that most of this movements were designed in pre pc/software era, with just paper and pencil
Would never trust a watchmaker who wears his watch on the wrong wrist! EDIT: He's wearing two watches? All is forgiven!
Hopefully that's just some sort of staged demo, and they really don't put fully assembled mainspring barrels through the cleaning machine, and then just put them in the movement...
I think so too, but my Mom asked to look at my 3573 and asked how much it costs. I said I bought it second hand and saved a good amount of money. She wouldn't let it go and kept asking me how much it costs so she could "appreciate it." Gotta love Mom.
Great video, thanks for sharing. $400-600 doesn't seem unreasonable after seeing what goes into a full service.
