I'm not interested in buying this piece but it is quite interesting and was wondering if this is truly a very rare piece, or some kind of franken. I have seen watches with that face on the dial before (not really sure who he is haha) but Ive never seen it with the Logo and text on the lower half of the dial.

If you're an Arab you might want some prince / sheik / emir / sultan's face on the dial of your watch. Otherwise...... pass. Think about it - would you want an SMP 2254 with Bill or Hillary Clinton's face on it?

:p Here are some other examples:

While they are interesting and kinda cool, personally I would not pay that much of a premium for a person's picture on a watch. There is a market for these kind of watches though. I think that one was relisted.

Rolex made some cool logo dials too.

Haha, I wouldn't want any politicians face on my watch!
These are cool, but I don't think I would ever buy one.

    Hi guys...

These first 2 are pictures of ex-royal family members from Qatar. I believe they passed away a while back.

The "microbial swords" ( :p - huh ulackfocus!) insignia is the royal emblem of the Sultanate of Oman and the symbol on the national flag, that bent-tip dagger looking knife in the middle being a part of the national attire of the country. Actually, that insignia is also used for the RAFO, Royal Air force of Oman, and those watches could very well be military issues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_of_Oman) but that needs to be verified ofcourse!

The falcon one at the bottom is the national insignia of the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and the Arabic inscription is the name: Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum - Current Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE, and constitutional monarch of Dubai.

........thanks for explanation. While plain dial is nice, this kind of watch shows more history significance. Whether you like THAT part of history is another matter.

I just found out that Indonesian sports ministry back in 64 gave out Speedmaster 321s to other country delegation to win favor against suspension of IOC membership.

    Regards,

Very much agree... I personally wouldn't wear those myself.

I can definitely see how those alterations as above were also a means of providing distinctive and personalized gifts with an added touch of Omega heritage. IMO, a high end means of either sucking-up or showing-off.

It occurs to me our non-commonwealth colleagues may not understand. I think it is our duty to educate them....
