Hello all, new member here. I found this site in my search for a watch i desire. im fairly new to watches(i do own a few) however i know what i want. I need some help purchasing a decent watch. I live in a smaller town in pa (york pa) and we dont have many vintage omegas floating around. For me to look at in person.

Ideally im searching for a non cross hair chronometer constellation pie pan date complication stainless case with a gold cap and a constellation back. I figure i will find it with a leather strap. I am also wanting a rice bead 2 tone bracelet...
that is what im looking for but with my limited knowledge(apart from my searching and finding this site) i dont want to get too burned. I understand i will have to buy these separately.

I will also take a fine example of a seamaster with the seahorse on the back, stainless steel and gold cap, date but it would have to be a very good original condition example.

Ive read a lot about redials mixmatched movements, and over polished cases. The repainted dials i can generally make out, but not 100% the rest is harder for me to decifer.

I have found a couple watches on ebay i am interested in and wondering if anyone could give me a second opinion?
    Thanks
    -Ramsey

The first one looks like a reasonable starter watch, nothing stands out as incorrect.

The second is an over polished re-dial so to be avoided.

You'll get more help if you add some photo's to your inquires and not just links.

Ok thanks for the reply. I also got this app chrono24, is that a better place to find something or not?
Here are 2 pictures from the links in order

    Yup. 1 = nice, 2 = nasty.

A beginner shopping in chrono24 is swimming in shark-infested seas without a cage.

If you want a Connie, don't buy a Geneve.
Stick to your dream, don't be sidetracked, it is attainable.
Spend a lot of time looking at pictures before splashing out money.

Wouldn’t you say though that eBay is even more dangerous?

No. At least on eBay you have some right to return a piece if it is not what the seller says it is.

However, Chrono24 has a higher percentage of good honest vintage watches than eBay.

On either format, you must know what you are doing, otherwise you will get burned.

On Chrono24 you can also return a watch too...
But in any case I agree with you- you have to know what you are doing
    Cheers

Eeek! 1 and 3 are horrendous redials.

...and I'm not so sure about #2 either.

My advice is to understand that most 50-70 year old wristwatches have some level of dial aging (patina) and that pure, bright white was never an original dial color on an Omega.

I suggest that you spend some more time looking at photos. If you look at 1,000 photos of Constellations and train your eye, I think that you will then go back and look at those examples and the flaws will immediately jump out at you, e.g. the bold cross-hairs, the position of the minute markers, and the smoothed-over pie-pan edge on the first one, and the absolutely horrible font and sloppy printing on the third one.

You have a huge advantage since you have narrowed down your search to a specific model, so you can easily become an expert on it.

Please also browse the Sales sections on this site. There are usually several Connies listed at any given time.
