Had one of those moments, I was prowling ebay to see if I could find an Elgin like my dad always wore and stumbled on to a totally different model that struck my fancy, tossed a low bid and moved on and a few days later found I had won the auction.

Has a small second hand dial complication at the 6 position.
    Movement says
    Elgin 554 U-S-A
    V375234
    15 jewels
Appears to be a steel case, it is manual wind
Case back say Star Case and words I cannot make out and Elgin National Watch Co.
    9270895
Dial only says Elgin. Numerals are gold colored and raised with no 6 because of the seconds complication.

Fairly grubby but running strong. Going to put a longer strap on it. I know as a dollars and cents decision, getting it serviced won't be a smart decision viewing it from a balance sheet perspective. I just like it and even though it is too small a watch to ever be in my main rotation, I think the old bird needs to get out now and then.

At that price I might have gone for it, except I like the Hamiltons better.

Understand. I know there is little to no collector value on a lot of these but these "common man" watches can be a real joy.

The only Elgin I have now. Movement # and inscription inside rear cover place it around 1921/22. It is in a Wadsworth "referee" 14k GF case so it probably started out as a 3/0 ladies hunter cased pocket watch, and later converted to a wrist watch.
