Input needed on my beat up Seamaster (update with service photo)

Hi Omega Forums,

Just wanted some input on my recently purchased Omega Seamaster 166.010.

The watch is filthy but I believe under all that filth is a nice watch.

Case: I think the case has been polished as I can barely see the vertical brushing on the sides, however the bevels on the lugs when the watch is flipped are still quite visible and sharp. There is quite a deep scratch on the case back and some dings on the 5 o’clock lug.
Crystal: scratched, however it does have an Omega logo.
Crown: looks like the original crown to me, which is rare as I see these with the bigger ones.
Dial: hard to see because of the crystal but looks in good condition in person.
Hands: same as the dial, hard to see because of the crystal but look in good condition in person.
Movement: not running, however the hands do move when setting the time and the date does change when going past midnight or when pulling out the crown.
Bracelet: ok condition, the beads at the 12 o'clock end links are bent out of shape and need to be adjusted. Endlinks look correct with ref 11, while the bracelet is 1502 no12.

Questions to the OF’ers:
- Does the watch seem original?
- What is the OF’ers take on the condition of the watch?
- Should I change the crystal or polish the case back?
- Is the damage on the 5 o’clock lug dings or could it be pitting?
- Finally, I paid $415 USD. At this price I think it's worth the gamble but what do the OF’ers think, should I keep it or return it?

Kind regards,

Sam

You did just fine, bracelet is $150 by itself.

Will for sure need a service especially with all the crud introduced to the movement when the back was removed. Don't polish anything except the crystal.

Thanks for your input @X350 XJR, I'll leave everything as is and just get the crystal polished.

Questions to the OF’ers:
- Does the watch seem original? Yes
- What is the OF’ers take on the condition of the watch? Good honest "worn" condition
- Should I change the crystal or polish the case back? New crystal, leave the caseback
- Is the damage on the 5 o’clock lug dings or could it be pitting? Probably a ding from being dropped at some time, not a big issue
- Finally, I paid $415 USD. At this price I think it's worth the gamble but what do the OF’ers think, should I keep it or return it?
If you don't want it, you've got my number 😉

With a service, a case/bracelet clean and a new crystal it will be a very nice daily wearer.
Nice catch Sam.

Hi Hipp
Can't comment on the watch but after seeing your avatar I had to respond. No doubt you will recognize mine of the great man Bruce Doull. I believe this photo was taken after the 1979 Premiership win

Ahh geez, here we go. A bloody Blues convention in the making!

😉

I remember seeing Bruce at a game at the G (got a seat in Bay 13 😲) when I was on leave in the mid 1970s. I considered him one of the players that had "footy instinct", similar to players like Michael Tuck and others who knew just where to be and what to do anywhere on the ground.

James Hird was another, but we won't talk about that.

Jim, I thought that would happen so sent @flyingdoormat a PM instead 😜.

That watch is beautiful as-is. Get her running, sealed and that's that. 👍

The price is great including the bracelet. As long as you're happy with the condition, have it cleaned up and serviced. If you think you won't be satisfied with the condition, you can probably flip it for a modest profit.

Cheers @Dan S, Im very much a noob, so to hear that the watch is in ok condition and that I didn't overpay has really made my weekend.

Looks like my first fishing trip was a success 👍

Nice catch! Get it serviced and polish the crystal. Vintage watches such as these feel all the better when the case has some dents and bangs.
Makes you imagine all the adventures the watch has been on. 😀

Thanks @Kraal90, and totally agree that the scratches and dents give it character, plus now I don't need to worry about keeping it pristine 😜. Its in service as we speak so once its ready I'll post some pictures 👍.

Looking forward to the pics! The 5-link BOR is probably my absolute favorite bracelet btw.

I'd pick a BoR bracelet over a jubilee or oyster any day.
